I am giving series consideration to simply removing the catalytic converters and mufflers and going to straight pipes. Has anyone done this? Positives and negatives? Thanks in advance friends!

I replaced the exhaust box on mine with an after market, that was loud enough that you had to have the radio volumn on max.

Try just gutting the cat and see how you like the sound, that's the way mine is and I think it's a great balance between good sound not too loud and no drone,

I agree, unless your locality or state requires emission testing.

    Beautiful car! SG

When you say gut, what do you do? Cut the cats entirely out and replace with pipes, or leave them in line and cut them open somehow? thanks!

Just put in a resonnated test pipe. Or a Fabspeed Race cat, to keep the function. Both improve the growl without adding ressonance, which aftermarket exhausts tend to do. Keep your OEM cat for future collectability, don't "gut" it, they will be hard to source and someday people will prize originality as they tend to on other classic Ferrari's.

If you put a PD Gough silencer ( sold under nouvalari in usa i think) , that will be loud enough. Look up pd gough in nottinghan in uk. They have pics of the available boxes

Fabspeed sells them directly, they are the best quality, nice solid flanges that use the OEM doughnuts to connect to the system. I think they make a straight "test" pipe, or could supply a resonnated pipe as well on request.

There are test pipes straight and ressonated on ebay but I don't know how well they fit. They look like pretty good bargains, might be worth a chance.

I think the single cat exhaust system cat for QV's also fit the 328 and 3.2 Mondials but I am not certain. I presume you have the single cat with O2 sensor, you would need to find the QV part number for it and see if it crosses to these other models. Many QV exhaust systems out there seem to be without a cat.

There was a popular race cat called Hyper-Cat, not sure they are still available for Mondial's. I have a spare one in my shop, it was fine but I did not like the flanges compared with a friend who got the Fabspeed, so I swapped it out for the Fabspeed. My car is a 1988 Mondial 3.2 single cat exhaust system for the US and Swiss markets.

If it is the right fitment, if you want I can send you the cat with O2 sensor on it you can try it out. I would ship to you for whatever the out of pocket ship cost (I am in Canada). If you don't like it send it back, or perhaps the sound is not what you expect (it is not much louder than stock, just more growl). If you want to keep it I would want US$500 for it.

I went through a Larini exhaust, which although a work of art and very light had way too much ressonance at key daily drive rpms, then back to stock muffler with the hypercat, and then stock with Fabspeed, and that latter sounded best with the best quality.

You won't know what works for you til you hear it live. Its just a simple bolt on (assuming your retaining nuts ad bolts are not corroded and the doughnuts are new), so not a big deal to experiment with.

The best sound is one that still lets the natural thrash of the engine and intake come through, some exhausts are too loud for my tatste and overwhelm the mechanical symphony of the total powertrain.
