I am leaving Sunday in the T-34. Flying up there with a buddy in his Tora Zero This is my 40th year in a row. There is supposed to be a Wildcat with the early shotgun starter And the Terrafuga will fly on Wednesday
I've got a really busy week but would love to go. Wish it could be Thursday to see the PBY but I've got plans that day so maybe Wednesday. You'll be there all week? Doing any group flights with the T-34? from the webpage: Unique Aircraft Flying at AirVenture July 18, 2013 - Along with thousands of departing and arriving aircraft throughout AirVenture week, numerous aircraft fly as a part of the event itself, and we're not just talking air shows. They're various warbirds, examples from the Replica Fighter Association, vintage, homebuilts, LSA, and more. You certainly won't see many of these planes flying together anywhere else but Oshkosh. You can see Justin Lewis fly his BD-5FLS microjet on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Terrafugia's Transition flying car is slated to fly on Wednesday before the night air show. The Air Tractor AT-400A representing Dusty from Disney's Planes will fly Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. A PBY Catalina will fly on Thursday. Larry Neal's SkyCycle gyro is scheduled to fly Thursday and Saturday. And catch the world's only airworthy Fairey Gannet flying on Monday. Other aircraft: Sonex's new SubSonex jet piloted by Bob Carlton will fly on Tuesday and Sunday (August 4). Yuneec's eSpyder is scheduled to fly on Thursday. Pratt and Whitney Canada gets the stage Wednesday with a PT-6-powered aircraft in celebration of the engine's 50th anniversary. Cirrus Jet on Tuesday Reno Air Race plane examples on Wednesday and Saturday Various helicopters from the Helicopter Association International on Saturday and Sunday Thrush 510 on Tuesday and Thursday An Eclipse Jet on Friday
I will be there all week Not participating in the big formation. I did that about 5 times and I prefer to watch now. My T-34 is blue and white with US Air Force on the side To anyone who has ever thought of going it is a great place to see new innovations in aviation and thousands of display aircraft.
If I make it will search out you and your plane! 40th year in a row.... holy crow! What are your top 2 or 5 memories? Last year I rented my 75 yr old dad (2 new hips, one bad knee) one of those scooters for the day. We covered less than 1/2 the ground in 3 hours when suddenly a 15 minute tornado of sorts rolled through. The big tent with ~100 refugees and multiple flat screens, couches etc we took refuge in held on but others didn't. Flipped a little bipe onto a gorgeous V12 Thunder Mustang. Someday may ride in that tri-motor, until then memories of the flight in Aluminum Overcast 5 years ago will suffice. Top Memories First year 1974 (I was 11) in a 182 with my dad and 2 brothers. A P-40 and a Wildcat flew pretty close when passing us. Then sleeping in the airplane all 4 of us and getting eaten up by mosquitoes I think it was in 1976, Bob Hoover spinning the F-86 My wife over doing it while 8 1/2 months pregnant. We were in the Warbird are and asked for a Doctor. We got so many response we could pick which area of expertise we desired. Last year my son won a ride in the Blimp during the airshow. Flew a Spitfire while there about 6 years ago Using more gas doing multiple go arounds in my little jet then what it took to get there. 1995 there was a guy with a monkey who hung around my P-51 for several days. It opened up my wife's purse took out her tic tacs and ate them all. Flew in the show with the Mustang the year the Bearcat crashed on takeoff, had to fly for 45 minutes when we had briefed for 8 minutes. Never got to loosen up the formation my neck was stuck to the left in pain. Also not fun taking off over someone you know who had just crashed and we had no idea if he was OK or not. After 40 years there are a lot more. It is a great place to be. I highly recommend going.
I'll be flying there, splitting my time between judging the Ferrari Nationals and Oshkosh. Not sure yet what a/c will be available to use, but something in the Citation line up , either a 1, S2, or 7 . I'll file for landing at SBM Thursday 1700. Gary Bobileff
So the journey begins.....to Ferrari Club of America 2013 International Meet and EAA AirVenture. Cars picked up Saturday to go to Road America, just 48 miles from oshkosh! I cant make it this year but what a great show! What a busy week with all of the different events going on. EAA AirVenture, Ferrari Club of America 2013 International Meet, and the Air and Water Show at the Milwaukee Lake Front. Plenty to do this week!
My only Oshkosh was exactly 30 years ago, in 1983, and I've wanted to return ever since. One of these years I'll do it. I spent three days there and still didn't see all there was to see. The current EAA Museum was having its grand opening, and I couldn't even get over there! I do remember a large formation of T-34s flying over - maybe f4udriver was among them? I stayed in the UW dorms - great combination of price and accessibility, but you had to book a year early! I wonder if that option is still available.
Good stuff thanks for sharing Sadly I won't be able to make it this week, but if you snap any pics or have new stories to tell please post them up! How did the Spitfire compare to your Mustang?
