Anyone going to the 2nd of July dinner and retrospective with Mr. Hill? He is supposed to talk about his racing career, show movies, good food and drink, that kinda thing....It will be at the Meadowood resort, organized by FCA Pacific. I will be taking the Ferrari, but would love to catch a small caravan if anyone is heading out from the south bay, peninsula, east bay, or SF.
If you are a club member and want to go, check with H Wong to see about availability.

Here he is, winning at Monza in 1960, in a Ferrari, from photog - http://www.jessealexander.com/

I spoke today with the Catering Manager at Meadowood, Ms. Jennifer Smith (707) 967-1267. The dinner will be a standarized one with a beef entree. If you aren't a beefeater and would like something else, you should call her in advance to make arrangements.

Harold Wong advises the dress for the event will be "sport jacket/no tie required" for gentlemen and whatever would be comparable for ladies.

Mapquest.com advises that Meadowood is about 1-1/2 hours driving time from San Francisco via I-80 & etc. Mapquest gives slightly different directions from those on the Meadowood website, so print out both to be sure.

Ferrari is still in the shop; crossing fingers that it will be out before the weekend.

I can tell you from my personal experience that Phil Hill is an interesting person and so is his wife.

I spent a whole day with him in January '04, in LaJolla, and then again another full day in LaJolla with him in July, '04, wherein we had dinner that evening.

He is generally quiet, but when he gets going he's very interesting. He was much smaller than I remembered him!

He is a democrat so be prepared for a good conversation!

I would like to show up at this event. All info would be appreciated.

    Here's the deal.

I just spoke with Lisa Savano the contact at Meadowood in St. Helena (707-963-3646).

The event is sold out to the walls.

The cost would be $200.00 for the dinner.

    H. Wong is the contact for drop-outs or available space.

that probably means that I cannot even bring a "date" (Wife opted to go to the neighbor's party, instead)
It should be a nice event. Beef once a month is actually prescribed,. even for cholestrol watchers, need the iron and Vitamin something, or other...

"I can tell you from my personal experience that Phil Hill is an interesting person and so is his wife."

Alma Hill is a great lady and very funny. If you see her, tell her you heard there is free food at the Mullin/Hill suite at the Lodge during Pebble. :)

My wife and I have known the Hill family for over 20 years and can listen to his stories again and again like they were new. Phil was very close to Marshall Mathews who pushed him to write down or share his experiences so history would be correct. You have Marshall to thank for getting Phil to publish his book and give talks.

I got the autographed book via Road and Track. I am hoping for a personal dedication if things are not too crowded.
I will be commuting to the event from Belmont, if anyone is interested in a caravan for company...

You shouldn't have a problem with Phil signing the book.
