    OK, here is the deal:

    The reason I asked this is that I will be racing in the Grand Am Cup race, in a BMW. The weekend's mail brought my first pro racing license, from Grand Am Cup, so now it is official!!! I will be racing the #72 car, for the 4-car Anchor Racing team. Among my teammates is the legendary Boris Said!!!!

    I am still looking into haow all of that works. I have a special crew pass for my wife. Still figuring out friends' access, etc.

    Hey i wonder if my friend still races Grand Am, (He moved from Trans Am series) I was in his pit crew.....

    You'll be driving against Boris Said, thats crazy. I shook his hand once :). I saw him today racing in the busch series in mexico's road circuit. he went from like dead last to top ten. Look's like you got your work cut out.

    Do what i did. Dress like a pit crew member, and when somebody stops you to ask you where is your pass, say to the top of your lungs that your driver is coming in and that you got sent to the truck to find an extra part for the car, but there wasnt any, and now you have to tell your crew chief that there is no part and that he needs to tell the driver to stay for an extra lap till you work something out...

    Ok ok, i didnt really do that.........but it can work

    Bump...I hope to see some of you there in 2 weeks. Look for Anchor Racing. We will be fielding 4 cars--all BMW's--and I will be co-driving one of them. One of the others will be co-driven by Boris Said & Anders Hainer. Sorry, I only was able to get one unused team pit pass, and my wife will be using it. But general admission gets you walt-through priveleges in the pits in between on-track time, AFAIK.

    That is really cool Dave! I saw your name in the press release. We'll be rooting for you. We're building a Grand Am Cup legal cage in the RX8 if for nothing else but to help resale.

    I'm surprised you are just jumping into pro racing. I know you've done track days for a long time, a few BMW club races, and maybe some Vintage races? Now do you wish you would have followed my advice 2-3 years ago and gotten some cheap fender rubbing with Ara and me? :);):)

    Thanks, Rob. Yeah, you are right...and it is a HUGE leap. I am, frankly, not that good. But these guys approached me, unsolicited, in part because they know me, and in part because, unlike their former 3rd teammate, I am very good on the equipment. At 43 years of age, it seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity at a cost equivalent to club racing my M3. As my wife convinced me, I could not say no to this dream of a lifetime. But yeah, I could have used some more race time. I will be racing a BMW this weekend..co-driving ina 2 hour enduro...at TWS. Good practice. I also think I will be co-driving an SRF this November in the 6 hour SCCA enduro there.

    I think it is great and you are right, can't say no to an opp like this. You should still have Ara build you a SM and get some seat time in a class where everyone is disappointed if you don't rub. :D

    I'm going Saturday - anyone else going to be there and want to shoot together? I think there might be a few photographers going and it's always great to feed off each other's excitement and learn from each other. It's my first race and I'm really excited.
