Below is a clip from the movie Collateral. You gun enthusiasts out there will realize that Tom Cruise was VERY well trained in gun handling for this movie. He breaks leather in barely one second. Very impressive technique, too, as his first shots are with right hand very close to stomach for speed, then he extends hand & braces with left hand for the second volley.

    WARNING: not for the squeamish

I am sure Joel, our good DDS, could patch him right up if he was not laid up with back pain from removing all his gold chains.

I thought the same - although I'm not skilled enough to really judge it - but I remember seeing that and thinking, "dang, he's good with that pistol..."

He even practices (nearly) proper FTS technique with 2 assailents.

2 COM, then 2 COM, 1 Head to the other guy, then headshot the first.

The fact it's a blank gun helped his speed a twinge, but otherwise, very impressive gun handling for a change.

First off, let me say that I am NOT a fan of Cruise. Having said that, is it wrong for me to giggle when he nonchalantly taps the guys forhead at the end? :D Thanks for the link Dave. That might take the place of the Iraqi insurgent taking a 5.56 to the head as my screensaver!! :D

I have no experience with proper draw/speed technique, but I did notice the talk about where the shots were placed in the morgue. The movie definately seemed realistic, but now that you mention it I'll have to pay more attention to the quickness of draw etc. next time I watch it.

Beyond even the realism and expertise in the gun handling... I really enjoyed the rollercoaster ride of the movie!! The pursuit of Jada and his own business really drew me in from the beginning:).

I remember when I first saw the movie that I thought his gun handling techniques looked impressive. I wonder who trained him?

I saw a behind the scenes of Collateral show. He was indeed extensively trained, to the point that his trainer was pretty chuffed about how competant he became.

On the DVD there's a special feature that shows Tom going through very extensive training just for this movie. After watching that it's not surprising how believable his character's actions were. Granted, I believe that scene with the 2 goons in the alleyway was shot in front of a green screen with just Tom by himself, but I could be wrong. Still a great movie no matter what :D

Nope. Scene was shot as you see it, but in numerous takes to get all the camera angles.
