Hey Dave thanks for the pics but, the least you could have done was had Niki as the hand model.

Hot steam was attacking the rubber?
The word 'sediment' I just used to describe the sticky debris in the lines spoiling the flow.
Anyway, since it is the rubber hose back to the expansion tank, the original reason for overheating must be somewhere else, right?

These hoses are engineered as a necessary part of the cooling system. They are in place to bleed off air pockets that form in the cooling system. If they are clogged they cannot perform their function. Resulting in a car that operates at hotter than normal or possibly overheats.

You are so cruel Dave Helms......if Niki sees this accusation you'll be forced to go back too doing "REAL" work out in the shop area(that place outside your office where the cars are..if you've forgotten.lol), and she'll be sitting at the desk playing on the computer and jaw jacking on the phone all day.

You got your hands dirty because you tripped going to the frige?????????????? Give me a break!!!!! More like you had to get off your duff and clean that dirty couch before mom got home.

FYI. This company is now making silicone sets for the 348 and F355, as well as various sizes of non-moulded silicone hose. BTW, it also comes in various colors for us metrosexual F355 owners (Marco buddy, I'm not going to let you off-the-hook quite yet).

Does their kit contain the small expansion tank hoses or do they have to be purchased seperately??

    Hi Bruce:

To the best of my knowledge, it does NOT. When I initially contacted them, they were only making a set for the 348. After a little bit of persuasion (i.e., nagging) they started making a set for the F355. I also mentioned they might want to show/list the Ferrari P/Ns of the hoses the kit covers. The Ferrari silicone hose set only comes with 6 hoses and is about 2.5-times the cost. We had a Thread on it a while ago, although, for the life of me, I can't remember how/why we started talking about the subject. Try searching "yellow silicone hoses". I know Robbie (285ferrari) mentioned those within the Thread. Hope this helps.

    Best,

    Scott

If this be the case for your engine operation in low ambient air temp's, is your gearbox fluid getting upto optimum operating temperature using the remote mounted CH front transmission cooler?

How important is the coolant temp sensor in causing the ECU to go into closed-loop operation?

Does the 355 go into closed-loop as soon as the O2 sensors reach operating temp, or is it looking at "O2 signal" AND "coolant temp sensor signal", and going into closed-loop ONLY after it gets correct signals from BOTH of these sensors?

For what it's worth the 5.2 uses only one coolant sensor for this, whereas the 2.7 is using 2(one for each ECU).

I bought that kit through Ricambi America back in January. It does NOT come with those hoses.

I was concerned about this too. I have measured the temp on different areas of the gearbox with a infared probe and it seems to fine.
I think that the cooler is there to cool the gearbox at high speeds, the opening in the bumper is fairly small as is the cooler itself. It would take some fairly high speeds to push much air through it. I haven't used the car in much lower temps than 50 degrees and as I said the gearbox seems to get up to operating temps without amy problems. Regards, Vern

From reading Bosch material on the 2.7 the coolant sensor and the 02 temp both play a role in getting to closed loop operation. The temp sensor also is used to adjust timing, retarded slightly for cold operation. The 2.7 only goes to closed loop at idle(after warmup) and at steady state throttle, I think the 5.2 and the ECUs used in later cars is a little broader in the concept of trying to keep the engine in closed loop, the 2.7 system is fairly simplistic in it operation.

Many thanks Vern....I may not chase this rabbit any further..lol Got way too many irons in the fire.

If I had the $$$ I would toss this Bosch Motronic crap to the alligators and go with a complete Motec system and digital dash..

I got a digital dash sitting on your parts shelf just waiting..... Straight out of a Virgin, one owner, Texas grocery getter car. David @ Ricambi will pay me to give it to you as he has spent far too much time helping me with the software...

Boc Bob - I am intrigued by your comment that there is a t'stat blank which you term the Challenege Plug. There is nothing in the IPC that adresses this.

Do you have a p/n for your new fans?

I have had the same thoughts but the Motec is pricey for what i do with the car. Also I don't think the 'gators would know what to do with it. hahaha

Have a used plug in my box of 355 parts if you want it but you will need to thread the hole in your water pump.
