Anyone had an Aprilia Tuono?

    I'm looking hard at buying a leftover Tuono R (not the Factory with Ohlins).

    Has anyone spent some time on one? I am fairly familiar with the Rotax engine, and that is has been a well-designed and reliable engie for the past decade, so no real worries there. Actually it seems the overall quality of Aprilia in general has been pretty good. So no rea worries about that part of it.

    I'm more interested in other's opinions of the bike as it is to ride. Comfort, usability, wind protection (if any) etc.

    It would be used for commuting and weekend street riding. I probably won't even modify it. I'm 6'2" and nearly 40 years old. My 851 (bought in early 20's) folds me up like a pretzel. 30 minutes its great, 3 hours not so much. I've also had a 999 which I sold last year, a little more comfortable than the older Duck but not much...

    I rode one for about 15 minutes a few years ago. Wind protection was minimal, plan on none really. But it was pretty comfy. Comparable to my Monster and far better than my 748. Nice motor and chassis, a good bike overall.

    Great machines and an absolute hoot to ride. Think of them as a "standard" RSVR.

    About the only compromise is the seat/footpeg delta is tight for peeps used to non-sport bikes. Compared to an 851 or 999 its like sitting on a recliner that goes 170 mph. There are kits to lower the footpegs if necessary. Comfort is great, wind protection so/so.

    What kind of deal can you get for a leftover non-Factory?

    where's the closest dealer to you? IIRC, you're in Springfield, right?

    unless Moto Europa in STL picked up the franchise, I'm not aware of a dealer anywhere close to you.

    The bike I have pictured above is a 1-owner '08 Factory with 875 miles. New condition.

    The 1st owner commissioned Moto International (Seattle area Aprilia/Guzzi dealer) to strip the bike and remove the gold paint from the frame. So now its bare aluminum. She also had them powdercoat the forged wheels since she did not care for the blue finish. The bike looks like it left the factory in Italy like this.

    $9250 including shipping to anywhere in MO.

    Just 'sayin :)

    I have two Tuonos. The wind protection is easily remedied with a Puig or MRA tall screen...90mph cruising is comfortable, at 75-80 its a piece of cake. Add a 16T counter shaft sprocket, a set of Akrapovich slip-ons and hang on. IMHO the Ohlins/OZ/Carbon Fiber equipped models are worth the extra jingle....especially at the "blow out" pricing. The price difference wouldn't even cover the front forks if you decided to add any of the bling later. I think (admittedly a bit biased) that the whole Tuono generation are some of the best/most capable motorcycles ever conceived....and at these prices, an absolute steal!
