From the factory-produced F430 announcement letter:

"At high speeds, in fact, ram-effect induction accounts for 1% of the engine's maximum power..."

So in the case of the 430, that would be 4.9 hp.

In his case it is a 6 speed but there would be no difference, the gear ratios are the same in fact the transmissions are identical in every way.

For all Dyno nuts out there, I found the book that talks about the air intake system. Whether ram-air is a real phenom. or not here is what it says. The book first off is Ferrari 360 Modena Bye, Automobilia and on page 63 they say: "Air to the manifolds is supplied by the dynamic air intake on the left wingwhich is designed to feed air in under pressure and thus produce a slight increase in power measured at an extra 10 bhp at top speed." Sorry about the 20 bhp horsepower figure I stated above but its been 5 years since I picked up this book. The book was coprighted in 1999 and there email is [email protected]. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for the info, provided this is correct and not a marketing hype then I guess one can add 10 BHP to the SAE net from the chassis dyno. But it laso opens up the question if the original 395 BHP qouted by Ferrari includes this number?

also interesting; the porsche (cgt) recently put down 540 RWHP for a rennteam member (if i recall the correct forum) and as such, with the same type of internals as a 355 (the original discussion vehicle) is losing about 10% ....much better than the 20% were talking about here, not to mention that F50 which loses 150HP through the tranny...

Well I think it's rather obvious that something was wrong with the dyno or someone was misquoted. It's common sence that to get that cars acceleration times at its weight it was much more then 370 rwhp....dynos are ONLY good for comparing upgrades on the same car on the same dyno. Dynos can be calibrated anyway they want. One of my cars dynos 15-18 rwhp different depending on what dyno I use. Yes, same car, same mods.

so would you use the "standard" 15% power-loss on the 360M?

If you want but as said here in several ways it is IMO folly to try to extrapolate crank HP from RWHP.

Spoke to a buddy of mine yesterday who did some development on the 360 modena. He says Modena's from 03 onwards are bit slower than the 99-02 because of cadllic conveters are larger. He has seen anywhere from 320-345 to the rear wheels. Lower end numbers are coming from 03 and above. As for the Stradale, he has seen 375-385. He says it just one of things, where some cars going to be built better than others, in result giving better numbers.
