I would have bought this - I had asked Peter (via email) and then realized it sold. For $24,900 - a 1985 QV, can't go wrong. As many said here - you buy that and drive the doors off it. I've only inquired about cars he's had, but as many point out - his reputation is really good, so knowing that, I would have jumped on it quicker than the $21K '79 308 currently for sale.
Howdy, I am happy to report that I am the new owner of the car that started this thread. As noted, Peter was very straightforward about the car (accident). He was a pleasure to talk to and has a wealth of knowledge about these cars that will serve me well. Car should arrive next week to Flint, MI (home). I plan to drive it as much as possible. It will join my other Ferrari (1987 Ferrari Testarossa). Unfortunately I havent driven the TR nearly as much as I should. This is partly because of a desire to keep a black car from getting dirty (stupid I know), and because it takes a while to warm up and cool down and my typical daily runs are never more than 15 minutes or so. I am extremely grateful for the collective expertise and opinions of this forum. I lurked in here about 8 years ago when I bought my TR and am glad to be back. It is hard to resist ordering a bunch of stuff for this car before it even gets here but I'm trying. All I got so far was the upgraded fusebox, and some wiring diagrams. So thanks to all of you for your advice thus far, and in advance for that yet to come Bobby Mukkamala 1985 Ferrari 308 GTS QV 1987 Mercedes 560SL 1987 Ferrari Testarossa 1987 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas 1991 Mercedes 560SEC 1995 Mercedes E320 Cabriolet 1997 Porsche 996 Cabriolet 1999 Mercedes E300 Turbo Diesel/Vegetable Oil 2003 Mercedes CL55 2004 Mercedes E55 2004 Mercedes E500 4matic Wagon 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid
Congrats! I hope that the car provides you with many miles of enjoyment. Maybe it will even encourage you to drive your TR! Best regards, Dino
bmukkamala - Post some pics and a good report after you get your new 308! It looked like a good car for a great price. Regarding your list of cars.....very nice. However, isn't your '97 Porsche a 993 and not a 996?
Nah, ill leave this one be. ill save the planet with my daily driver diesel WVO (waste veg oil) car. then on the weekends ill incur the wrath of my green friends when i tool around in this. although, to my surprise, someone showed me today in an old TR book, that at 55mph the TR gets 28mpg. thats only about 5mpg less than my veg oil car. so let them bring their wrath.
I had 25K lying around too -- I wasn't fast enough to beat bmukkamala to it! Good luck - looks like a great car for the money...
