I'm pretty sure my trailblazer has a blown head gasket (due to a very serious radiator blowout and overheat about 5 years ago).

This UVIEW 560000 Combustion Leak Tester is available on amazon, but I'd rather not buy it just to do a single test and then have it sitting around taking up space doing nothing.

Is there anyone in the Gainesville area that may have one (or similar) that I could borrow for a day? It would be very much appreciated!

    Thanks
    Robert

there's a chance Pep Boys, O'Reilly's, etc might have one they'll let you borrow for a few hours with a deposit (unless you can drive the car to them).

Thanks for the ideas guys. I had called around and visited a number of auto parts stores previously and they didn't have them. However, I did find one auto zone on the opposite side of town that had one for loaning. Picked it up last night.

This is slightly old school and unscientific, but if you've got some miles on your spark plugs, pull them and see if you have one or more that has been steam cleaned. Most failed head gasket/intake coolant leaks I've seen will make the spark plug on the offending cylinder(s) squeaky clean in comparison to the other plugs.

Thanks for the idea racer. With the i6 Trailblazers, it's a single gasket, so knowing exactly which cylinder is the problem isn't really necessary.

However, my wife and I have been shopping for a new car recently anyway, ended up getting a Nissan dealership that really wanted to make a deal, so they are giving me a very solid offer on the TB. We are probably going to finalize the deal tonight.
