    Hey there Texas F-Chatters,

I'm in Austin and looking for a nice Mondial here in Texas. My preference is for a 3.2 Coupe but I'm open to other options (QV or later). Exterior colors other than black or white and a preference for non-black interiors (although that's not an absolute requirement).

Do you guys have one or know of one that might be for sale? Any help that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks and Happy Spring!

Im pretty sure $30k for a "retitled salvage" car with broken AC and rapper rims is a bit high, but you might could jew him down. This is close by to my house, but it has been sometime since I have last put eyes on it cruising around.

Thanks for the lead Dakota, but that's just not the right car on so many levels... :) It's been listed on CL for quite awhile, right?

There's also an '84 listed on CL here in Austin. I haven't talked with the owner, but need to reach out to them.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the note Jason!

Are there any other lovely Mondials floating around our great state?

    Thanks,

Thanks Bob. Yes, I did see the one in Westlake, but the pricepoint seemed a bit steep given that it's a QV and the amount of work that appears to be needed. Regardless, thanks for pointing it out.

Also, thanks to Jeff for PMing another lead.

    Happy Monday!

Yeah, they're not widely loved, but they make sense for me. I'm a child of the 80s and always liked the looks of the Mondials along with the TRs and (later) the 348s. At this point, I'm in my mid-40s with 2 young kids. The Mondials aren't the quickest, most loved, or the best-looking, of the older Ferraris, but they still have the right sounds, smells, feel, looks, and lineage. PLUS, they have 4 seats and I can take the family along on drives. :)

    So, Mondial it is...

Thanks for the leads so far. Still looking for the perfect car.

    Cheers,

I know how you feel, I saw more Mondials back in the '80s than I can count. I have put out some feelers (asked around for leads and advice) but must ask if you are "dead set" on a local (TX) car sale? I sent you a PM asking for more details. Call me.

I'm definitely not confining the search to Texas, but it would be nice to find one local so that it would be easier to drive and look at the car.

I'll give you a call later today.

This is just not a big enough market area to have a great chance.

I'd concentrate on looking from here west and north.

You are correct Brian as my searches have been fruitless. Most likely the sale will "out of state" simply because this model is "off the radar" and is rarely requested. Patience and a proper PPI will make the dream a reality.

Forza Motorsports specializes in older Italian and European, including Ferrari. I'd put them as "older exotic specialist," which isn't Ferrari only, but can have it's good points. I've talked to these folks several times about 308's. They have wide connections. Several people on here have had positive interactions with them. Since you are looking for a Mondial, a place that is familiar with older F-cars is a good place to start. I'd take their advice before I'd strike out on my own. You're going to find a ton of armchair experts that have no clue about Ferraris, and when it gets down to the nitty gritty, they suddenly aren't such experts. They know their business at Forza.

They have an 85 Mondial Cab for sale right now.

I considered a Mondial when I bought the 328, nearly pulled the trigger on an 87 3.2 coupe. My kids were 6 and 3 at the time. 14 years later I'm glad I didn't, but there were a lot of times I wish I would've. The kids had to take turns.

Duane's idea is a good one, call Moorespeed, Norwoods, and other exotic mechanics. And Brian ;). (Sorry Brian, still getting used to you being a Texan!) They frequently know whats for sale but might not be on the market.

i think the 308 GT4 is a better way to go for a 4 seater Ferrari.
In Houston there is a nice example coming available soon.

If you would accept the 456 with an automatic the price for them is still really low.

Another great round of suggestions. Thanks guys! That's what I'm looking for - the car that may not actively be on the market. I currently have alerts and searches set up for all of the major venues, but am looking for cars that haven't made it that far yet. I'll reach out to Norwood, Forza, Moorespeed, and Brian as suggested. Thanks!

The GT4 probably is a better option, but I just haven't warmed to their styling. Same with the 456. The 550 is another story - I love those cars! :)

Quick bump to get this back to the top...

Has the rain washed any Mondis out of the Texas woodwork?

Anyone know of one for sale here in our great state?

    Thanks!

I sold my 1985 3.0 QV on craigslist this spring to a great gear-head guy in north Dallas.

I am a great fan of the Mondial. It spoiled me on having four seats, or least more room in the passenger area. The Mondial is easy to maintain and parts, new and used, are easy to find. Whatever problem you may have with a 3x8 has already been discussed on FC. You also get you own section on FC.

My QV was produced toward the end of the 3.0 production and had some of the newer 3.2 designs, i.e. one catalytic converter and 3.2 electrical components. You can see a picture in my FC garage section.

My main issues were the ignition switch contacts, oil leaks, marginal A/C over 90 degrees outside, slow windows, slow second gear shift. Really, just the typical 80's Ferrari issues. The idiosyncrasies all add to the character and adventure.

I bought a 550 and loved the performance, but really missed the extra interior room. I sold the 550 and bought a 456 just for that reason.

I drove the Mondial to work about every day and for a lot of reasons I wish I still had it, but it has a great new owner.

Good luck. I do not think you will be disappointed.
