I might be moving there and I was curious if anyone does it. Insurance might be insane but (obviously) I wouldn't drive it too often.
Any problems other than the apparent suicide factor? What would parking run a month?

Notoboy has one, too... oh wait, it's a Vespa. Does that count or is it more like a Fiat/Ferrari kinda of relationship?

If you could get over the look you have on a Vespra (Noto hehe), they are great. Able to get around the city in amazing time.

    Hmmm....a Vespa....
I was planning on buying a bike to cruise around on in & outside the city on eves & weekends but a Vespa is a decent idea. It would be great to run errands with. Maybe I'll buy both.

Where do you guys park your bikes? Do you pay the same you would for a car?

The neat thing is that with the Vespa, you can park just about anywhere. Hardly ever, IF EVER, park it in a garage.

    Greetings, new guy!

I've got a BMW R 1150 RS that I keep in NYC. I keep it in the garage across the street from my apartment. $126 a month. Insurance is the same as I was payng on Long Island, about $750 a year. No big whoop.

For the most part, I park my bike anywhere. I ride it around the city in lieu of cabs and trains as long as the weather looks like it will hold. 11 minutes from Tribeca to my office on 55th and 6th. Parking in Times Square can be a challenge, but that's THE only place I have problems.

Service is easy, and the bike is easy to handle on the street. Most of your riding will be low speeds anyway.

Oh, one thing to realize: Lots of garages will not take bikes. Mine normally does not, but since I get raped monthly to park my Ferrari there, he lets me pay him an extra $100 to watch my bike...

    Good shops:

    - Cycle Therapy
    - Ducati SoHo
    - BMW Manhattan (on 56th Street)

    Bad Shops:

    - BMW of New York (on West Street)

Lemme know if you want to know anything else.

Bikes in NYC are the way to go - I'm surprised it hasn't caught on yet like in Europe.

Listen, don't talk to me about real bikes until you've been to P.R. China: we got more real peddle bikes than the total population of USA.

Thank you for the useful information. Very much appreciated. My dilemma now is what exactly I want. A Ducati sounds interseting...
I wonder why garages won't take bikes? I plan on probably getting raped for my car so I'll ask at the garage.
