I hope this hasn't been asked before... I'd LOVE to have some sort of roster of the Ferrari pits - who all is there, and what is the job description of them all? MOST of these titles I'm sure would be the same for all the F1 teams... but WHO are all those guys? How many are there? What are all their jobs called? Surely someone here has a list of that stuff... I just know I see them every race, sitting in the chairs in fire-suits, waving at the camera... but WHO ARE THEY, and WHAT IS THEIR JOB TITLE? Thanks for any input, Jedi
I'll give it a shot: - The guys you're seeing in the flamesuits are the mechanics & tireguys who don't have anything to do while the car is on track.... These guys also make up the ~12 (2/corner + 2 jacks + lollipop) guys that'll swap tires when the time comes. What amazes me is the # of guys (& girls) in the back-room - Add another dozen (plus) gazing at monitors - I guess there's a shed-load of data being monitored.... Cheers, Ian
The teams should have a list of team members names and positions on their websites. Not sure if Haymarket still puts out "Who Works in F-1" or not. This was/is a fairly comprehensive annual book which for a fee, anyone working in the business from engineers to media members could have a listing, sort of like a year book. Anyway, with just about everything being available online these days, some subtle digging may find your answer. But, keep in mind that at the mechanic level there is a high burn-out factor so turn over rates are pretty high. BHW
What else do those guys do? I can't imagine Ferrari has 12 guys whose only job is to change twice a rate, 18 times a year Are they designers and office people back at the team HQ? Do they run Dorka Cliente when they arent doing F1 stuff?
Most of the pit crew are mechanics at the race and some are truckies. Usually the chief mechanic is on the lollipop
Mike! - I told you (my best guess); "the mechanics & tireguys who don't have anything to do while the car is on track." There's (typically) 2 mechanics plus an electronics guy, a hydraulics guy and who knows who else per car in addition to the truckies (who traditionally look after the tires) - They work pretty hard, until the car goes out, then they all sit around..... [We used to go & grab a smoke as soon as the car left, but I guess that's no longer allowed ] No! Although, many of those guys are "ex" the F1 team - Less pressure etc. Cheers, Ian
