Suprised and pleased to see the RUF logo on the FerrariChat.com header when I signed in today; maybe its always been there but first time I noticed it. I have a CS and a wonderful 996 Ruf Rturbo. Any other Fchat members who own a Ruf (German Vin) or Ruf conversion (USA Vin with Ruf conversion from Rufautocentre, Dallas)? A pic of my Rturbo attached.

Nice pictures - awesome car! I would love to read a more in-depth description of the RUF experience. I had a chance to visit the RUF center in Dallash. Awesome place - and they had some amazing cars there.

I wonder what this has to do with Ferrari?

There is a Porsche forum if you scroll down the page.

A business acquaintance of mine knows Alois Ruf personally, apparently his was his best man, and had him tune a Cayman S for him. Awesome car, 400 or so horsepower. Had it done in Germany as a european delivery, drove it around there then had it shipped here. Excellence and Autoweek had an article on his car a few months ago, custom blue mettallic, similar to the lighter blue Ferrari color that he based it on. Ruf does some great cars, thanks for sharing.

And yes, this should be moved to the porsche section.

My appologies; didn't see the Porsche forum. The only link to Ferrari is my CS shares the garage with my Ruf Rturbo and they occasionally run together. Perhaps the moderator would assist and move my post. Thanks.

Great looking RUF, Paul. I am the second owner of my 1997 Porsche Turbo S (993 model) conversion to RUF RTurbo, which is coined as RUF Turbo THR (T stands for Turbo, H represents the eighth alphabet letter as the eighth turbo model, and R for RUF) here in Japan. Can't say enough for RUF cars, just amazing piece of machinery. The original owner replaced meter panels, seats, steering wheels, etc. to RUF specs too. Hope you enjoy the pics. w/ smiles Jimmy

    Jimmy,

Your 993 Rturbo brings a big smile to my face, lovely car. I too have a 993 Turbo, modified along the same lines as a Ruf conversion, but, alas it's not an Rturbo!

My understanding is that multiple bolt-ons can raise the HP of a stock 993TT to around 500 but not much above that without modifying the cams. Mine is supposed to be around 490HP, 500 ft/lbs of Torque but I think it's more likely in the 460-470 range. The great thing about Ruf is when they say 500HP, they mean 500HP on any dyno, anytime, anywhere. I've raced my 996 Rturbo (a 550HP + 575 ft/lbs TQ) vs. my modified 993TT and I'm pleased to say the 993TT does pretty good. The 996 Rturbo gets the initial jump, pulling one to two car lengths away in a sprint under WOT beginning at 30mph, but the 993TT holds its own up to about 80mph (due to being lighter), and then the 996 Rtubor pulls away somemore into 100+. Such different cars, such a wonderful experience being able to drive and compare them both. Your Rturbo is surely a keeper, envied by many! Cheers.

Thanx for the compliment, Paul. You certainly deserve those cars for testing their limits which is beyond my capacity. I use mine mainly for commuting and other mundane chores. As you know very well, the potential power is outright scary. Another thing that I like RUF over standard Porsche is the exhaust note, which is a level beyond. I have never driven an RTurbo so I cannot compare, but needless to say, I am happy w/ my RUF. Recently, I changed my tires to P-Zeros and I like it, not that I did not like toe previous Michelins, which were great also. w/ smiles Jimmy

Back in the early 80's my sisters boyfriends Dad owned a ruf 911, the thing was beautiful. Probably still the fastest car i have ever driven in. I recall him getting a speeding ticket for 130mph going over the Bayonne Bridge one time. I remember him saying "good thing I slowed down when i saw the cops"

    thanks for sharing the pics

Want to see one of the nicest 993 Rturbo's? Go to 6speedonline, access the 993 turbo page, and open "She's Back - ruf turbo."
This is one fine car, and would make most Porsche enthusiasts dream of putting one in the garage.

Paul there is a factory restored red (1989?) Ruf CTR #12 in Ontario. It's all legal including cats to meet 1980 level gray market emissions test standards. The owner also got a ride in 'yellow bird' and lived to tell about it...

No it isn't. The owner had it refurbished at Ruf in Pfaffenhausen and had a welcoming party at his house in Ontario....after the guests had left, there was a knock at his door...it was Alois Ruf himself !!! He had been visiting in T.O and drove an hour and a half to make it to this fellows party !!! Now THAT is passion :)

Had the pleasure of meeting Alois and his wonderful wife Estonia in Bahrain....their cars are ridiculously fast, uber reliable, and built with a zeal and passion that is palpable when you talk to anyone associated with the factory. I had a Ruf550...the thing induced at pit of the stomach rollercoaster gut wrench on acceleration that was sustained due to a flat long torque curve...you were essentially pinned to the seat. Looking forward to the day I'm back in a Ruf.
