I'm not sure how many former F1 mechanics we have on here, but there is a new forum up and going which is dedicated its membership to current and former Grand Prix F1 mechanics *only*.

I'd be interested in knowing what's going on in there to say the least :0

    Hmmm..... Very interesting.

A quick scan suggests they're more about helping guys (a fine mission of course) than "talking tech".

But I could be wrong. I just dunno if I want yet another registration. It's been a long time.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Agree. I get enough nostalgia as it is. Most forums are frequented by very few at the end of the day although many may be enrolled.

Rather spend a Wednesday at Mallory test than a weekend at a Historic 'race'.

Yes, but I bet you'd prefer an historic race to a Tuesday test at Croft...

    Ahh, Croft!.....

I was helping my cousin in Clubmans racing as a youngster and we headed up there. One tow car + him and G/F towing a caravan. The longest drive I'd ever experienced to that point.

The "facilities" consisted of a few holes in the ground covered by ex-army tents - His G/F was not happy.

Overnight what I learnt to be typical Scottish weather moved in and in the morning the tents were found at the far side of the track......... She was even more unhappy. ;)

    What a dump!

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - The only place comparable *may* be Thruxton on a February morning  [But at least they've got a few *buildings* to hide in/behind....]

At least at Thruxton the pub under the chicane stand is open by lunch...

Almost 20 years. And probably add another five to that since I've been to Thruxton.

    Damn, I'm getting old ;)

Yes, the Thruxton winds....Croft rain/winds.........Silverstone snow (remember that one?)....trying to level things out under the lean-tos at Brands. Good days indeed.

I do miss the bacon/egg butties though.

    +1

I only remember it snowing one time - A Euro F3 race at the 'Ring in ~'81. They were salting the track and expected us to run! The drivers were (of course!) gung-ho but fortunately the team managers prevailed and it got canned.

IIRC, there are no, none, zero, flat areas at Brands outside of the garages, which we weren't typically allowed to use (F3 etc). - Made setup a little "interesting". ;)

Also brings to mind the F3 support race in Monaco - Our paddock was (dunno if it still is?) the gravel/shale parking lot at the tennis club. The weather was nice, but outside that it *sucked*!......

    Cheers,
    Ian
