I am looking for someone that may have an engine hoist that I could borrow / rent for a day, esp a folding unit? Looking to use it first WE in June.
If you know where I could even rent one, let me know.

I just bought a new folding hoist at pep boys, it was about $140 and seems to work just fine. It's much easier to move around than the commercail non-folding unit I was using until the ram died on a road trip to pick up a machine for my workshop. I'm in Elverson PA, I don't know how far that is from you.

I got a new 4 post lift, and it will make some of the parts just a bit easier to move around during assy.

How did they deliver the 4 post lift to your driveway?

An engine hosit is not meant to do that. It sounds very dangerous.

The main ramp (with the cylinder on it) for a 4 post lift is damn heavy.

Don't kill yourself moving it. If I were asking friends to help I think I'd want 4 healthy guys so no one gets hurt.

I opted for an installer to set it up - $400. My body is worth more than that
    but just barely. ;>)

Thanks Bob....I think I should have a few people there, but will use the hoist to assist with some of the weight. A few guys have done it this way....but yes caution will be used throughout the whole process.

I used an engine hoist to erect the columns of my 2-post lift (probably a lot heavier and longer than a 4-post). It was a bit tricky but went quickly with no deaths (had one helper). I used a section of scaffold (my son did the "high" work) to attach the top cross-bar and string the cables.

    Be careful.
