I'm looking for a new radar detector. Been using Valentine, but I've seen the new Escort combination of GPS, Bluetooth, detector, etc. Looks like a great unit, something with a lot of uses. Anyone with experience using one?

I looked into the Passport IQ also but after seeing this video, I'm sticking with my V1.

Others I know that have tried it ended up sending it back within the 30 day trial period. How old is your V1 now? Have you sent it in to Valentine Research for a tune up?

I just completed a cross country trip with the excort 9500ci installed.
This is the stealth unit that has the remote display built into the dash.
We didnt not get a single ticket and it saved me from laser twice (once just outside atlanta, the other time in Houston) and saved me i think three or 4 times from radar. I particulaly liked the fact that when we stopped a couple of times the GPS function warned me of red light/speed cameras and the fact that it learned false alarms very quickly. We had very few false alarms and even though the system is a little pricey it paid for itslef on this one trip.

    cheers

LOVE my 9500ix. Great range and the GPS capability is fantastic. I won't look back to a non-GPS old school detector. V1 is also a top notch detector, but the lack of GPS would rule it out for me. Too many falses.

If you live anywhere with radar beacons for traffic monitoring, you'll hate your V1 and get an Escort with the GPS filter.

If you have a V1 in Cleveland, it will be going off every couple of miles on the highway. Always.

On another note....I'm curious....could the laser-guided cruise-control on some cars set off the laser alert on a detector? Is that the same frequency??

I got another car, so I need another detector. I searched here and google and really didn't find too much interesting or new. I have owned V1s for 10+ years and have them updated with new software whenever available. I thought I'd post what I found in case anyone wants to discuss or finds it helpful. The takeaway seems to be:

    V1:
    - Is the most sensitive/longest range
    - Arrows, bogey counter, band indicator, sound rate and number of LED's allow driver to decipher what is out there and where and react accordingly. (hard to explain how this user interface works if you haven't used one for a good long time).
    - Lots of false alarms (I have two and it is constantly going off in town even with "L" full filter mode on).

    9500ix
    - Is almost as long ranged as the V1.
    - Has the GPS features for traffic and stop light and speed cameras.
    - Has false alarm ID and Learning feature.
    - No arrows and less user interface information, but then the GPS and fasle alarm learning mitigate the need for it (meaning if it "beeps" slow down because its likely a cop, whereas the V1 beeps all the time and 90% of the time - at least in a big city - its a false alarm and you can figure that out from the information available in the user interface)

    K40
Please someone explain why so many highend exotics have this in the car! I can't find anything on the web about it. Interestingly my new CS came with a built-in K40. Its in the rearview mirror and goes off on occassion and shows some numbers in the display, but I have no idea what it means. I've been running that car with both the K40 and a V1 on the dash...

I just went through this and ordered the 9500ix the other day. I liked the passport iq for the navigation feature but for the Ferrari I thought it was just to big and bulky. I went to my local electronic store to see them both and I ended up liking the 9500ix the best.

    Cheers

I cannot tell you why so many exotics have K40. I can tell you why do. It came installed in the car. Mine has lights on the dash that signal front or rear and I can adjust the volume. It works well unless you are alone on a highway and you are the first to encounter instant-on radar. You are dead if you are over the limit. Also, K40 is worthless against lidar. The only defense against lidar is illegal in my state.
