After rebuilding my rear brakes minus the Ebrake, I decided I wanted the Ebrakes to actually work. I removed the calipers and sent them to Goldline in WA to get refurbed.

This is where I made a major mistake, I sent them via USPS. They lost the package and now I have no rear brake calipers.

Anyone have an extra set or know of some? They're $700 a pair (non-rebuilt) from TRutlands, that's the only set I've found so far.

To answer the inevitable questions: No, I did not get insurance. I have no idea why, but after researching it would not have helped anyway. No, tracking does not help. All it does is say that it left here and never made it there....not really all that helpful. Yes, I promise to never, ever, ever ship anything through US mail again.

    Thanks,
    Jason

Wow. Major blow. But if it makes you feel any better, I used to sell a LOT on eBay
(10k transactions) - I had probably 3 packages in the last couple years that took
SIX MONTHS to be delivered, but all three eventually made it.... just got 'misplaced' I
    guess.

Good luck in your search, but don't give up on the delivery.... maybe buy calipers now,
and sell the old ones that were rebuilt if they show up.

I have no calipers to give you, but I thought I would just chime in to help you feel better. USPS crushed my engagement ring for my fiancee a few years back. It was shipped from the jeweler in NY using REGISTERED mail, supposedly the most secure...the kind where it is shipped in a locked cage on the truck and tracked at every stop. They ran it over with a fork lift. Crushed. It was insured, they paid it, I got a new ring. What a pain in the ass. She still married me and it's 10 years this year. :)

Then the USPS lost an irreplaceable original slide (a great white shark image) that was going to a publisher, and refused to honor the insurance I had taken out on it (they claimed a slide is not worth $1000). They didn't mind taking the money when I insured it though. They paid after I threatened to sue. (Thank god I had a decent scan of the image but in those days, decent scans were rare). Slide has never turned up.

I still ship USPS but never anything important. FedEx or UPS for that stuff. Tracking numbers!

PS- USPS "tracking numbers" are just delivery confirmation. They tell you if the item is delivered only, not where it is.

Oh and I just shipped a set of fuseblocks to the Netherlands that took five weeks to show. A new record.

Check with FerrParts. They have two 308 back halves over there but I just don't remember if they still have the suspension on them or not???

I ship a lot with USPS UPS and FedEx and I must say they all have lost packages and the most ridiculous thing is that I have seen UPS cases where they say that the package is lost and there is no way for them to find it when suddenly another employee takes a look and realizes that it is in fact sitting on the counter in front of them.
It does help to call and "help" them remember what truck it was loaded onto and sort of follow the logic as it is most likely sitting somehwere with a missing label and therefore they don't know what to do with it. I had to call FedEx over and over on a delivery that they say was lost and it eventually turned up as well. Some employees will try and others just don't care. It's a matter of being a pita to them and getting as much info as possible.

And yeah Ferrparts would be a good source, you know Rutlands will rip you BUT Dave is handling the new website at Rutlands (it's pretty awsome now), I would contact him ( [email protected] ) he is a great guy. Bill at GT Carparts also claims to have good sources for used stuff at times and he is a good guy when it comes to pricing.

Check into various Alfa Romeo calipers - they look just like 308 rears, and may be the same. Centerline Alfa in the Denver,CO area has a lot of Alfa knowledge: International Auto Parts in Virginia are decent folks, and don't forget Difatta brothers when it comes to Alfas. They may just be a match that we could add to the cross reference thread as well.

I think they are pretty much exactly the same as one of the Porsche 914 model calipers, 914/6 possibly. Somebody on here will probably know which 914 had the same ATE calipers.

OK, I feel a bit guilty for saying that Rutlands will rip ya, I have gotten parts from them before that were a good deal but I also have gotten some quotes where my heart missed a couple beats, like 200$ for a used kidney shaped dash vent etc. But I always call them and many times order from them as well.

914-6 cylinder ATE calipers are exactly the same. Although trying to find replacement parts for the 914-6 through even the Porsche suppliers is tough. Apparently Porsche made about as many 914-6's as Triumph made TR-8's and I've heard they're both a hoot to drive.

As I recall from the PMB brake thread, the 914/6 is functionally the same (including spacers) EXCEPT the bleed screw is in the wrong position. The 914/6 GT is the same.

You'll find 914/6 calipers on ebay & around (I think Pelican has them too). Rotsa Ruck finding 914/6 GT.

USPS found them!! They told me after 10 days to assume they were gone for good...advertised as 2 day shipment and it took 14. Somehow the box got opened and some of the caliper parts were lost, but the main cores are still there. Luckily John at Goldline has the parts needed to make them whole again.

Some of the brake pad clips and pins are gone, but I think I can get those through Superformance.

Thanks for all the offers/ PMs for help. Fchat is great!

Damn, that was lucky I guess. I'm going through a similar thing rebuilding suspension and brakes on another car - one of my front callipers is off being rebuild and powered coated and I hate leaving bits like this in case they get lost or damaged.

Interestingly I'm using company local to me in the UK which does a lot of calliper rebuilds and the guy knows his stuff - he told me that he had been approach by Maranello as to whether he could "assemble" or such a batch of 308 rear callipers if they had some casings made... I shall investigate further.

Surely some casting factory in China should be on this...
