At a small shop here in the Dallas area today, I came across a thin, colorful linen banner/flag that is about 4ft x 6ft, with an illustration of a 312 T Formula 1 car, and the word "Ferrari" along the 6 ft edge and the word "Turbo" along the 4ft edge. There is a checkered flag border around at least part of the flag. It looks to be about the right age, the white is slightly dingy.

My description may be off slightly, I didn't look at it too long because I didn't want to appear *too* interested in it. I plan on going back an purchasing it next week.

The store owner claims it is a flag that hung in a Ferrari dealership in the 70's. I don't know if that's true or not. I think it might have been available for purchase at a dealership, not actually hung there, but maybe someone here can give me more info on that.

Has anyone bought or sold a similar banner recently? I am looking for guidance on negotiating a fair price. He gave me his asking price, but I want to see if it corresponds with anyone else's experience.

    EDIT: It may be a 126C, not a 312T.

I had the guy email me a picture of the banner. Is this an authentic Ferrari product, or bootleg? Looking at it closer, I suspect bootleg.

I vote for a fake. The sheild looks like the cavallina rampante is not centered properly and the "S" looks too slanted.

I'm with Ken, the shields proportions are way out of whack. The front of the car looks a little screwy to me too. However, 30 years ago you didn't necessarily need factory approval to print things like this, so who knows who made it.

Bottom line is, what is worth to you?

Not the hundred bucks he wanted, for sure.

When he emailed it to me, I posted it before I really looked hard at it. I agree the consensus that it ain't "official."

To be worth buying, it would have had to be original, or have a personal significance. If this banner had the Sharknose 156, I wouldn't have cared if it was original or not, cause I'm a big Phil Hill fan.

The Turbo-charged Ferrari 126c2 from 1982 didn't have a front spoiler. I think this looks like the kind of banners you used to see at races of the time. Whether it was a licenced product or not I don't know. I think it looks great, but I'm not sure I'd pay $100 for it.

Hey, thanks anthony. I looked and looked for a pic of an F1 car of that era without a front spoiler but didn't find one.
