Just wondered if anyone has heard or read anything of the noise levels of 16 cars yet? On various different forums and nobody seems to have any idea what they'll sound like. https://www.formula1.com/content/fom-website/en/latest/headlines/2016/1/f1-2016-louder-noise-mercedes.html
Think overall it'll just be louder, not much tone change. They found quite a bit of power last season compared to 2014 and the sound was mostly the same.
Louder is good! It may be Paddy is blowing smoke, but the twin exhaust approach sounds (no pun intended ) at least a little promising. Just a couple more weeks till we find out...... Cheers, Ian
I don't think the volume of noise is the issue. Having been to a few races over the past couple of years, I've actually enjoyed the fact that I don't have to wear ear defenders to the races and you can hear other really good sounds like wheel lock ups under braking. The real issue is the quality of the sound. It is just dreadful. The GP2 cars sound so much better and even though they are way slower, they stir spectator emotions in a way which the current F1 units never could. Switching from one exhaust to two is completely pointless. Only a fundamental PU formula change will bring back the noise quality I want to hear... and a big increase in the rev limit would help too.
No 2016 cars have been launched yet so surely the noise levels remain conjecture - ask again in a couple of weeks during the first test
Just put on some bad music and turn it up-lol. Imho the issue wil always be the quality of sound-now that gas is cheap time to bring back the v10s..
Just bought er indoors a new Dyson Animal vacuum, so i reckon I have a good inkling of the turbo whoosh! Think it may be up on power compared to the Hondas though. hahahah
Considering it did nothing but idle, I think there may just be a little hope! Wish they'd given it some welly though..... And did you notice how many spectacle wearers there were involved! Cheers, Ian
A little inspired......would be most inspired if they would go to a V10 or V12, but I think those days are gone.
Right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT-ucSwdLZI This is the Honda, but the rest should sound quite similar.
Merc sounds the best so far IMO. Although they didn't rev the Ferrari. Honda still sounds horrible to me.
I think they'll all be running that setup this year. Don't recall the details right now, but I believe that's the new setup they agreed on. One pipe exits via the turbo, but the other is 'direct'. Something close to that anyway. Cheers, Ian
