They must be really expensive because nobody seems to want to pay for one.

Seems to check out fine. No damage or other errant history recorded. Just be cautious of Florida cars due to the humidity.

Exactly my thinking. Buying a Ferrari....don't want to pay for a carfax. Funny.

I asked and got flamed, it was some cheap car and no one wanted to carfax it. I didn't buy the car, thanks to someone (I forgot who sorry) PMed me, and said it was water damaged from Katrina. I still don't have a car, and I kind of don't need one now. But if I was certainly buying a car, I would buy the CarFax membership, since I was just browsing I didn't.

The one thing that does stick out as a bit odd is the mileage:

12/03/2003 NY 17,192 Motor Vehicle Dept. TITLE (Lien Reported)
05/01/2008 CA 18,317 Motor Vehicle Dept. ODOMETER READING FROM DMV

Granted it's a Ferrari but to only drive it 1200 miles in almost five years is not very much. Older cars - with mechanical odos - need to be approached with a little more caution since disconnecting the speedo/odo was a relatively easy thing to do.

The car is back on Ebay, no mention of any katrina damage by seller. I just wonder if this guy can service the car himself why hasn't he done it yet.

It must be me but this is pretty much useless information other then how many times it has changed hands. It does not tell me if it was damaged and repaired nor if it was flooded and dried out. There is no way to tell if the engine/transm. has been abused or if the interior had been replaced. Everyone does not report accidents and some insurance companies don't provide accident info to carfax. So if you can't inspect the car for yourself or have someone look at it then you are playing with fire. My 2 cents.

You seem to be missing the point of a carfax. Instead of wasting your time getting a PPI or flying out to view the car in person, you first check the carfax. For $19.99 you can immediately see if there are any reported accidents or flood damage. Just because carfax says there are no issues with the car, does not make it true. However, it doesn't hurt to save yourself the time to pull one.

    Comprende?

Carfax doen't prove a negative (i.e., NOT damaged). It can only be used to warn you if there is a report of damage or funny odometer readings.

+1, although to Steve's point you can't conclude you know everything about an older Ferrari from the Carfax. It's a reasonable starting point to gather any obvious deal breaker information, not the ironclad guarantee someone might assume.
