He was an oil man who lived in river oaks. I was reading Joe Jamail's book and he has a funny little story in it where he talks about west and his legend. Apparently West would go around Houston giving people silver dollars during the depression. Another funny story was when West got in a disagreement with Houston Lighting and Power(i think that was the old name) over something. The disagreement made him so mad that he decided to stop receiving his power from HL&P and instead decided to get his own generator. The generator was really loud and made a lot of neighbors pissed cause they said they couldnt sleep with all the noise it made. Mr. West also raised pigs and donkeys in his back yard in river oaks. Jamail says the reason River Oaks is so exclusive is because of the rules the community association had to put in place because of some of the things West was doing. This story is just one of the reasons i love Houston so much, theyre are so many characters here.
Anyone know what house in river oaks was mr. wests? id love to see it if its still around.Oh ya, he also buried a whole bunch of silve dollars around his yard. A while back some foundation work was being done on the house and 250,000$ in silver dollars were found, lol..

just interested to see if anyone ever met this man? id love to here some other stories about him or other Houston characters..
