I love them. I'm considering getting a beater, then swapping in a different, more "potent" engine and making it a track car. The only thing i'm worried about it the highways. I'm afraid of getting sucked under a truck. How safe are they?

    Thanks

    Chris

Have 2. One with the 900cc and one with 1300 cc. Wont get sucked under a truck. Does 65-70 easily all day. No problems climbing hills.

My dad also has one, its an original Cooper S with the 1300 stock motor. Fast fun car, though tiresome at times, because of too good handling.

I remember a guy had setup one for track racing. Had a GSXR 1100cc engine in the back (kinda like a ClioV6) ... it hauled!! lol

Well its not safe against a Ford Excursion, but neither is my motorcycle. One of my minis has full roll cage with race seat, and race harness. My dads and my other one, doesnt, they are both stock.

I usually drive them on the weekend and stay out of the lanes that soccer moms drive in (the fast lane). I stay in the 3rd lane on a 4 lane highways.

I think as long you are careful, and keep you eyes open, you should be safe. :)

As far as engine setups you can try the B16A honda motors. DOHC VTEC 160-175hp. You can look into that . :)

the thing is, i love the heritage. If i was going to do a swap, it'd have to be an english engine :)

My cousin has done a swap and his is pretty quick. I'll see if i can find out what engine he used
