Were the Turbo wheels too big functionally or aesthetically? Regardless, I would have probably done the same. For racing, I find that the 15" magnesium cookie cutters respond the best the steering and throttle inputs compared to larger wheels.

+1. Couldn't agree more. Even with fairly pedestrian max perf Falkens, the car handles so much better with the 15s it's ridiculous. The car could not handle the size - rubbed like crazy no matter what. The turbo twists sure did look right, though. They brought the car into the 21st century without looking wrong. But oh well. :)

I picked up an 86 944 Turbo in May. I flew out to Milwaukee and drove it home to Philadelphia without any issues what so ever. I had it in the shop to get a thorough once over so the mechanic could give me a repair list of what needed replacing now and what will need to be replaced in the future. Fortunately the list wasn't very extensive and I had him take care of most of it. The biggest issue being a leaking seal at the top of the gas tank.

I really couldn't be happier with this car. As others have stated, it handles so solidly, it's surprising that the car was made nearly 30 years ago.

After 13 years in an 80 S/C it found a new home. Its replacement is an 89 S2. It's normally a satisfying ride. Right now it is awaiting a clutch replacement.
