Pro Mods are coming back. 2nd Friday of every month. If you have not seen these cars run, it is awesome. High 3 second, low 4 second e.t. with speeds around 180 mph in the 1/8 mile. They are plenty loud and very fast. It is only $10 to get in and you can walk around to the pits or to park in the pits it is $15. Cheap entertainment.

Go to the photos section and scroll down to Pro Mods 2006. About 65 good shots of the cars that are usually there.

If you remember Green Valley and know that Bill Hielscher owned it, Bill owned Kennedale after Green Valley. It has plenty of seating, concession stands both sides of the track, some trees for shade in select areas and the typical stinky racetrack portapotties.

Wish I could, but it is wedding weekend for the Cullum's. For the price of a 456 we get a party that will go by in seconds. At least that will get 2 behind and one to go for father of the bride stuff. Boys are sooooo cheap!

    I have a son.......thank God..........

My brothers brother-in-law ,who used to build the engines for Eddie Hill, is going to come to town to be taking care of one of the Pro Mod cars. Hopefully, if my schedule will permit we will be out there. I have not seen Gary Prater in almost a year so I really look forward to seeing him again. He can really tell the stories about wrenching for years for a world champion top fuel team.

Unknown to most people, Eddie held the records on both land and water at the same time. He had a certain period of time when he was the top drag boat racer also.

I began following Eddie from the late 50's until his retirement a few years ago.

    1. Eddie Hill 1961 twin Pontiac
    2. Eddie Hill at the old Abilene airport dragstrip
    3. Eddie Hill in one of his late model cars
    4. Eddie's engine explosion at Texas Motorplex, Ennis, Texas
    5. Eddie, one of the most popular top fuel drivers ever......
    6. Eddie Hill dragboat 5.16 et 229 mph on water 1/4 mile
    7. Eddie and Ercie Hill with the record boat

Check out his biography at www.trnonline.com/eddiehill/biography

The quick facts section is pretty cool.

Sprints are across the road 1/4 mile south. They run on Saturday nights. Nutty..And the Outlaws are faster than ....

If you have not seen the pro mods run the 1/8 mile strip you are missing out. Accelerating from a dead stop to 180 mph in 4 seconds in a door slammer, not a funny car or a dragster. And the smoke and sound is unbelievable...........

If anyone does go to Kennedale Friday night and wants to meet up, I will be in the pit area with the red Corvette Pro Mod of Gene Hector. Gary Prater, Eddie Hills engine builder, will be crew chief for the car.........

Gates open at 6pm. Go to www.texasraceway.com and click on schedule. Navigate through the site for other info you might need. Go to photos and scroll down about 3/4 the way to the Pro Mod pictures from 2006.

I went out last weekend and saw some of the Pro Mod cars practicing for this weekend. Saw one car go 4.10 et at 176 mph. Pretty quick for an eighth of a mile.

If you google "Kennedale Pro Mod races" you can view last months video highlights or check on youtube, Houston Motorsports Park Highlight Video. If I could figure out how to link the URL here I would post it for you..

William, it is not far from you. From Fort Worth on 20 turn south toward Kennedale at the junction of 20 and 820. Go south about 2 or 3 miles. There will be a Valero station on you right that will have a small sign that says "racetrack" with an arrow to the right. Take the turn and go about another 2 miles. Texas Raceway will be on the right. You can park on the spectator side for $10 per person and walk around to the pits for free. You can park on the pitside for $15 per person. I always park on the spectator side and walk around the staging lanes south end of the strip.

Hope to see you out there. Hope the weather holds out.....

Just got back from Kennedale. Will was out with his camera and said he would post some pictures. The Pro Mod corvette of Gene Hector that I went to meet up with qualifed 2nd at 4.08 179 mph in the 1/8 mile. He went out in the first round when coming off the line hard he suffered tire shake and had to shut down and coast thru. He still turned 4.80 but crossed the center line when he almost lost it, disqualifying himself.

There were about 13 Pro Mod cars out tonight attempting to make the 8 car field. You had to run 4.21 or better to make the field. The Wild, Wild West car of Steve Wiley did back to back 3.97 et's at over 180mph. Running a 4 second 1/8 equates to about a 5.75 to 6.25 1/4 mile.

I will wait for Will to post the pictures......

    Thanks for posting Will.

FYI, it was the very start of the first round of Pro Mod qualifying when Will took the pictures. That is why the stands are empty. It was about 7pm. By 8pm the stands were FULL, both sides of the track. Eliminations began at 10pm. Will left about 8:45pm.

Sorry you missed the actual eliminations Will. There were about 150 cars running and 8 in the Pro Mod field. Had some drag bikes running 5.0's at 130 mph also. Lots of good racing. Sorry you guys missed it.......
