    Been thinking about getting into it. Lots of cheap ways to start, and SCCA even has a class where you can't spend more than 4k on the car (for real rally).

    A while back...I found out about a rally school, somewhere in Nevada. It was incredibly reasonable and it involved sliding around in someone else's car on gravel roads. I would be up for that before trying to get a car and entering scca races. Then again, I do currently have a PT Cruiser Enterprise rental...

    I am, however, looking for accomplices for the Double 500. For those of you who do not know, Martin Swig created this event to counter the elitist (to some) California Mille Miglia, or just to have fun. One is supposed to purchase a sub $500 car and go on a 500 km drive in the East Bay (it was 500 miles, but most cars could not hack it). I thought about buying a cheap Alfetta and painting it like a Carabinieri vehicle...

    I was looking into the double 500! In fact, that is one of the events I was thiking of! Glad you brought it up. If you're interested in doing it, I'm absolutely game.

    See, I've had an itch to do some driving events beyond what we put together. Time-rallys (where precision is key), vintage rallying, events like the California Mille (uh, anyone got a 250 GT SWB Sefac I can borrow?), etc.

    BTW, we're thinking of karting tonight. Interested in coming? Supertrack, be there by 7.

    I wish. I am burning the midnight oil figuring out proactive measures relative to the merger at work, at least in my little microcosm...

    I am up for the Doble 500, though ! We can have several teams. Keep your ears open for sub $500 cars. I am monitoring craigslist, came really close to getting a Pacer, but I was an hour too late !

    Doing the same. If you wanna do it, one sure-fire reliable way is to find a toyota corolla. those things are under 500 and will run all day long. of course, finding something with a bit more panache would be amusing.

    is it next june?
