That's what I'd go for. Something with some sort of land mass. If you have an island that's like 10 acres, it will be under water in any hurricane. Something with some substantial land mass should hold up. You're also going to look at building some sort of barrier walls around the property in order to keep your island from moving. The tide will wash away the leading edge of your island and redistribute most of it on the backside. Your island will move across the ocean. LOL Ya don't want that because eventually it'll come up to the house and try to move that. No bueno...
We can try an experiment. Let's totally cut off 911 from your home! Then run in the paper that you dont have it and the cops have been told not to come to your house for any reason. Then add in that you are obviously rich and maybe have a few undefended girls running around. (Lots of luck!)
As i said, solar panels can provide you with electricity. Its my dream too to buy a huge island, build a fantastic race track on it and have a ****load of race cars. Track will feature a long, wide straight which doubles as a landing strip. The house will be something Balinese, not too big not too small...3 further Balinese guesthouses on water. A fairly large salt water pool built out of natural stone with grotto & jacuzzi is a must. Gorgeous women will be at premises at all times, playing beach volleyball with tiny bikini's on. I don't care much for servants, I like my privacy but I'd like a cleaner who won't say anything at all who lives at the other side of the island with her husband as handyman/maintenance. They can live their own fairy tail live as long as they're not in my live I'm happy lol. I'm not a religious man so this is my idea of heaven.
If you think cars rust in Minnesota, you ain't seen nuthin' till you get near the ocean. Even stainless steel develops cancer there. Not a place at all for nice cars.
You don't need 911 to have adequate security for your home With respect to private islands - I used to have a little place in the Bahama's called Norman's Cay. I ran an import/export business for a while, until the Feds put some pressure on and shut me down for some reason. Probably scapegoated. I'm still involved in some litigation about that. Got to run, my internet privileges are about to expire.
Thats why its a dream. IIRC a magazine once calculated the costs involved, including the getting all the asphalt etc to the island, tools etc etc. With a nice villa on the island, guest buildings the whole everything, it came down to around 100 million US$. So yeah, to actually make something like that happen I'd have to make stupid money lol. Ideally my island would be situated on a place with fantastic diving opportunities & fantastic waves. One can dream.
True, but 911 should never be confused with home defense. 911 is "back up" for home defense, but take that away, and you had better have an armed squad
i dont want to retire in the USA. but i do think the ice caps melting are going to cause the sea levels to rise a good bit over the next decade or so. i am not so sure living near a current coast is a good idea, unless its on a mountain.
This is my back and forth debate.... I've heard that in a matter of years we are in for a surprise... and I've also read that over the next 100 years water will rise 12" at most. My dream house is in question, but until I know otherwise I'm going for it... all 13,000 Sq. feet of living before I make additions including a 5,000 Sq. Ft. basement 'lair' and buying the property next door..... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
You have it all wrong you need to retire now while you are young. There is plenty of time to work when you are old. I have been semi retired for the last 20 years since I was 30.
You can rent this one too see if Island life is really for you, ask for the F-chat discount..JK http://lovangovacations.com/The-Love-Shack.htm
