Starting to look and this one is in my area.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1980-FERRARI-308-GTSi-RED-with-TAN-LEATHER-INTERIOR_W0QQitemZ170395417608QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item27ac5bbc08#ht_8628wt_802
Price looks high in my opinion. Otherwise looks like a pretty car. I dont see where he talks about what service history all it says is "strong service history" which doesnt mean anything to me. It appears to be pretty clean on the interior, which is easily done. May be worth a look, but I would never pay that much for it. PDG
Yeah, I agree.......nice looking and clean car, but the price is way out of line! It will never sell for that, especially in this economy! Keep shopping around........you will find a much better deal somewhere else! Good luck.
There is another one on eBay: 1980 GTSi, red over tan, one owner, under 22k miles, no reserve. VIN 36023. Owner says it's a Euro, but it doesn't look like it to me (from the photos). Another odd thing; it started with a BIN fo $27.9k, now removed. eBay No. 140354321593. Sorry, don't know how to make a link.
Someone placed a bid which removes the BIN because there is no reserve. Looks like it's hanging around $16,595 right now. The car looks clean and it is an original owner car! Very nice! I have driven the same year car you are inquiring. It is a dog. I would look at documented green light DOT euro QV's if it were me? lighter faster and better looking IMO. Cheers
That's what I thought, too. Now the car listing is gone from eBay. Did the BIN get activated; what happened?
It looks georgeous. But unfortunately it's a used car. That means you get a PPI and cross your fingers. As for performance----- I've heard so much back and forth about this 3X8 Vs the other, when it really makes no practical difference. Well tuned, they all run very well! Unfortunately, a F50 or Enzo or for that matter a Sub WRX or slightly hot Mustang will embarrass them in acceleration. Once you get away from that performance issue of a ~25++ year old technology car, you'll appreciate the character and have many miles of smiles
Very clean, enough to make me reconsider my preference for a late QV. Carfax doesn't have any records of it, which may be ok considering it's the original owner. [edit] taillights are reversed, might mean it really is a euro and they were switched at import, or a pointer to a possible repaint. Still a nice looking car.
Just one thing. Europe Standard 308 GTSI used leaded fuel. Unleaded was for Swiss and USA models only. Ciao Eugenio
not a euro car. VIN looks to be a US car, plus look at the decklid. the euro cars have the black grills completely separated by the central red piece. on US cars, the central red piece is shorter which allows the black grills to connect at the bottom.
Looks like the seller cancelled all bids and ended the auction. It might have sold through other means.
arpadkal.........Still looking for a 308? I ran across one in the Bay Area. It's a 1982 with 25K miles. He's asking $21K. I have no affiliation, and I am just passing this along. The early (1980) 2V injected cars had some SERIOUS problems related to faulty engine components (e.g., piston rings) and some other defective parts (e.g., Marelli ECU's) sourced from vendors. I would stay away from a 1980 car unless it has had all the recalls and corrections addressed and documented.
or feed it oil until you do a valve job and replace the digiplexes pretty cheaply with a modern aftermarket igniton (eg electromotive). all especially attractive if the car is otherwise ok and you get it for a good price. the real expense is if you decide to keep the car and start fixing everything to make it like new again (see above regarding radiator fix). ask me how i know. regards, jon s
