Shell Optimax Extreme is a new super-high octane fuel with a minimum octane rating of 100, the highest currently available at any Australian service station. Shell Optimax Extreme is formulated with 5% ethanol.

I been using just normal optimax on mine Dingo, runs nice and smooth, try some out :)

    EDIT:

The shell brochure said to check out : http://www.fcai.com.au/ethanol.php/2004/11/00000001.html for the compatabiliy of ethanol blended petrol. It says "Ferrari does not recommend the use of ethanol blend petrol. E10 may be used in emergency situations."

It probably means that Ferrari don't like it much - even though it's the sponsors product.

It mentions 2 stations near me, but I havent seen it hit those stations yet.

This weeks Fifth Gear, they test Optimax 98 vs unleaded 95.

I wouldn't touch it with 5% ethanol! When ethanol first appeared in Qld FCCQ had a chemist talk to club members and his advice was 100% ethanol was fine for cars modified to run on it but mixtures (especially the low 10% used here) were poison. With all the other problems Optimax has, I (personally)wouldn't risk it.

I checked tonight, it's at my local servo. I'd like some objective info on the ethanol debate. My very limited understanding on the issue is that the ethanol is more "corrosive" towards fuel system components. My son pointed out that whilst methanol is extremely agressive, ethanol was no where near as much so and in fact not a lot more so than regular petrol. Has anyone here got further info, as $1.30 is a lot less than $5.50 a litre for race fuel??

I don't think the current series is on TV here, you need to find the episodes on the net. ;)

what is your son using in his WRX (if he's still got it) now that BP Ultimate isn't available?

I'm about to finish this tank and it looks like the WRX will be drinking 95 fuel for awhile.....

Apparently the Kwinana Refinery has had some sort of problems and are unable to produce it, unsure of how long it will last. (I've heard early Dec, but also 2-3 days so who knows)

I went to the nearest BP today and they are already out, so maybe I'll find one somewhere that has some left......otherwise 95 will have to do.

if it's original, yes, but you can do a top end rebuild and remove the sodium valves, fit better shape valves all round, replace seats and guides and use unleaded all you like.

Should cost well under 10K. I've done 4 here recently.
