    Hey all ;

    I have a question, and maybe someone can answer it...after all, we seem to have a wealth of info on the board.
    I have a 6 disc CD changer in my car. Came with the car when new.. Other than the unit in the trunk, everything else, speakers, dash unit, is stock.
    The CD's have been skipping like mad on every track, every disc, almost constantly. Looks as if I will need to replace it.
    So, is it a simple case of just buying a multi-disc changer, and replacing it myself, ? I mean , how hard can it be...I don't need a new set of speakers or a dash unit, and let's face it wire is wire, and all I want is a new unit in the trunk....
    Is it a DIY thing, or do I have to hand it over to someone in a specialist shop....?
    Also....any ideas on disc changers ? I have not shopped around or even started to look....can you get more than a 6 disc changer, ? 8 ? 10? 12?

    Talk to me , people....

    hps,

    A few things. The laser could simply be dirty so a $20 CD/DVD Lens Cleaning disc (at BestBuy, COmpUSA, etc) might solve your dilemma. As for new units, they come in various flavors and certain ones may simply hook right up PROVIDED there is a plug-n-play adapter. Call your local better car audio store and ask.

    Is your car a Ferrari? If so then most likely the changer unit is Sony. If so, buy a new Sony and plug into the same wires. 99% positve they will be the same. If not, what brand is the Disc Changer. You SHOULD NOT pay someone to do this! At worse case scenario, pull the changer out and look at the model number on the back...then buy the same unit on Ebay...If you could provide make of car and make and model (at least make) of CD changer we could probably help you out a lot more...Try the cleaning disc first though...

    Try calling Crutchfield (crutchfield.com). They are a huge DIY
    mail order shop, and have massive databases on all the DIY
    in car stuff. I would call the reps and explain, they can probably
    recommend something and sell you something on the spot.

    I would trying cleaning the lens first as stated above.
