Several F-chatters have been very helpful to me in my search for my first Ferrari. I have been looking for a couple of months and been ready to pull the trigger on 4 cars now, just to have them sold literally within hours of my call to the owner. It is very depressing. I have been very deliberate and possibly a little too cautious, but this is my first Ferrari and I want it to be a good car. I want a red/tan 308 QV or 328 GTS. 2 of the 4 cars I have wanted are F-chatter's cars and the price was right, so they sold very quickly. Anyone know of a good car for me to look at. I am located in Atlanta and would ideally like a Euro car if I can find it but it is not necessary. Send me a PM or email if you know of anything.
    Thanks,
    Pete

Bill Noon, as well..('76)......a well cared for example, priced accordingly.

I had this talk with SlickMurphy. If you are TOO careful, sometimes it'll cost you the deal. But often better safe than sorry!

They made a lot of them....keep searching!

Have you gone to FoA yet? My car came from there originally. I have seen lots of Atlanta area cars when poking around the market.

Is it just me or have 308 prices made a slight upward move this year?

I probably have lost a couple of good deals being too cautious but generally the cars I am interested in are not local. It is real hard to evaluate a car over the phone and PPI's take time (not to mention the expense). I have found it amusing that most people describe their Ferrari as perfect, so it is exceptionally difficult to judge with digital pictures and phone calls. I am pretty disappointed but I will keep looking. Any leads would be great (the 328 at Lambo of Dallas sold within the last day or two as well).

If you find a good car jump on it, I let serveral slip away too, when I was looking. Good cars that are priced right, don't stay on the market long.

Plus you are going into ferrari buying season ;)

Steve Ahlgrim had one for sale up your way. If you want to, email me and I will put you in touch with him. Actually I can get you in touch with a couple of people that would be of help to you where you live.

Far from you, but I just noticed that Ferrari of Denver has a few new 328s in their inventory.

Do you know about what that sold for? I saw it listed on Ebay a few times and was thinking about making an offer on it.

Just got back from FoD - flew out to Denver to look at a car. They have a black '87 328GTS and a blu chiaro/crema '86. Both are priced at $48,500.

I drove and carefully inspected the blue one which, mechanically, is as nice as they come. It hadn't been detailed yet when I saw it. No leaks, no accidents, all switches work, etc. Just honest wear on the car. I think the lack of oxygen in Denver hurts engine performance, because it certainly wasn't a fast car. But it ran and shifted nicely, and looked impeccable from underneath when it was up on the rack. Cosmetically, the blue one has had a masterful respray on the front which looks incredible. It does have quite a number of small bare metal scrapes and nicks on the original paint (deck, rear quarter panels, rockers) which aren't bad until you stand a foot away and really look. Also a couple of blobby touch-ups that don't match too well. In a way, the beautiful front respray makes the other flaws stand out. DISCLAIMER: I'm extremely compulsive about this kind of thing, so if your standards are closer to normal, and you're looking for a driver car, this one would probably suit you.

I sat in the black one, which started up OK in the 30-degree weather. It is being serviced at FoD and will probably be a good car once they've sorted it out. It didn't have the remarkable service records of the blue '86, so I can't say as much about it. I passed on this same car in San Diego at $42K, but it has been nicely refurbished (probably paint buffed out) since then. Could be a candidate - I just don't have as much info. FoD seems to really go over the cars and service them before listing them, so the difference between their asking price and that $42K number is probably not out of line.

No hesitation in recommending this dealership. Bill Orth knows his stuff and actually owns/drives a 328 himself. The main problem is it's damn cold in Denver right now.

Pete...just to add to your options...my previous '85 308 GTS QV is for sale at Ferrari of Central Florida in Orlando (I traded it in last month). It is Grigio Met. (Dark Gray Metallic) with Tan interior and roughly 56k miles on it. I'd be glad to fill you in on any details / questions you might have about the car if interested...feel free to send me a PM (or you can contact John Sliman at FoCF) -- just trying to help you out in your search.

I am looking at a Red/Black 308 QV this weekend and have been talking with a guy who has an 88 red/red (yes red and red) 328. Before seeing the photos I was not a huge fan of red interiors but it is growing on me. The 88 car has no cats and a tubi exhaust. Unfortunately I live in an emissions testing area. With the limited info I have provided is it possible to estimate what I would have to spend or do to retrofit the car to make it pass emissions?

The USA 328 exhaust is the same as the USA 84/85 308QV exhaust. '83 and earlier are different. Pete, I'll swap you straight across!

Pete you may also want to look at collector car trader.com. Where I got mine from. Seems like you are getting a pretty decent knowledge base from here and from all the cars you've already seem. PPI before you buy is the MOST important thing.

Another source that I *never* see mentioned is traderonline, or specifically, the Collector Car Trader online variant located at http://www.collectorcartraderonline.com/.

That is where I got mine.

Right now, there are 14 328s listed.

Some eBay cars are listed there, but in general, I feel like there are a number of cars listed there by individuals who won't market it as aggressively. In my case, a perfect car was priced below market because the owner put it in his local Craig's List and trader online - but that was it.

My strategy was to call every single owner of every nice 328 there--and I did. This one won out...

    Good luck!
