I will be in Vegas at the end of the week but have been faced with a dilema, I can't rent a car. I am 22 years old but all the major places want a surcharge which tends to be $15-$30 a day. After a week that is at least $100. Any idea where to go to avoid this or am I screwed?

    Thanking you in advance

Try Enterprise. I know several people that are 21 that have rented from them with no surcharge.

My company used to book me through AVIS - when it was a corporate rental, the surcharge didn't apply to those of us who were under 25 at the time.

I noticed that too. Apparantly with corporate accounts with approval it is allowed but not with customer accounts.

That was the first company I thought of but apparently in Vegas they surcharge but not in NY or NJ?!?

Although that would be great, those rentals would not work for us this time.

Let me put it this way: Enterprise is the company that will screw you the least.

Think $10/day is bad? Try $25 with the other companies. I grappled with this dilemma for many years.

Use Enterprise's web site to find locations in the area (and not necessarily the airport). The web site allows you to input your age; and sometimes smaller Enterprise locations won't charge the age surcharge -- at least not when booked online. If you find such a location, book there and bring the paperwork with you of course to the location in case they try to charge you. The Enterprise web site doesn't lie. It either shows you the surcharge or does not show one at all.

Unfortunately there is no other solution. Pay to play and rejoice when you turn 25.

Dave I found ONE location out of the 30 in the Vegas area that did not charge but I assumed that I would just be charged when I went to pick up the car. You think I can get away with it?

You certainly will and can get away with it so long as you print out the Enterprise reservation that clearly indicated your age (21-24) on the left side of the page and no age surcharge on the right side of the page. Bring it with you and show it to them; and if they do try to charge you, insist that you will pay exactly what the internet told you to pay.
