Back when I had an MR2 years ago, I remeber that companies like Truleo made kits that replaced the pop up headlights with a flush mounted HID kit. I nver actually bought one, but I know they are out there. I LOVE my F355, everything about it, but the pop ups are one of the few, maybe the only thing about it that is a bit dated.

I have seen pictures of 355s with Flush Mount Headlights, but I suspect that the ones that I've seen were one off custom jobs, although perhaps someone out there knows of a vendor that has or could make such a kit. There was on picture that comes to mind, I think I saw it somewhere on this site, of a 355 Challenge with flush mount headlights and it looked great.

    Any ideas?

You might PM Dave Helms and ask. He and Bruce were, I think, modifying one of Bruce's F355s with flush-mount lights. I really looked great.

I feel obliged to put in a plug for the pop-ups. I personally love them, yes they are not seen much now, but that is one reason I like them. You also won't see them in the future (not allowed on new cars now) so that makes them even mo betta.

The covered lights do look good, so at least a conversion will be OK. Will 512M lights fit? The F40 look is better than the 360 headlights, which are my least favorite thing on the 360.

+1 I prefer the pop up lights, IMO these flush lights date the look of the car back to the F40 era. The pop up lights keep the lines of the car clean, these lights clutter it up and make it look a little "kit car". They are just too squre for the nice flowing lines on the front of the 355.

Each to their own though, if you like this look then it will sure be different to most other 355's on the road. :)

Think along the lines of frontal impact and pedestrian safety.....

Soon we will have big balls of cotton wool on the front of our cars to protect stupid people.....

Being an ex-MR2 owner myself - I know what you're talking about and there are a few companies out there that make buckets for flushmount lights-see pic below- I remember looking into it a few years ago when I had my '94 turbo and just did a quick search on google and pulled up various kits for RX7's and Miata's.. most of the kits on the CH cars are custom one-offs and really not that hard to make- and completely reversable- I will search some more when I get off work and PM you with what I find..

I have in back of my mind that it was a new us law on lights that brought in pop up lights during the lifetime of the daytona, 1st ones were flush. They then had to be a minimum height above the ground.
    is this true, anyone know?

and re fitting an mr2 kit to a ferrari to go back to flush - oh the irony

Here in California I believe the vehicle code mandates a dimension of at least 24" from the ground to the center of the headlight.
