That puppy is cryin' out for some Leatherique. Great color combination, though.

I've looked at it online recently as well. I think it's been for sale for a bit.

    That's a nice vintage-looking interior color.

I would consider an actual shoe polish vice Leatherique on this.

I looked at that as well. CarFax has an accident on file, that is the only additional information that I have.

The car looks fairly decent in the pictures. A driver, definitely not a show car. I would want to have a really good PPI done on it by a Ferrari mechanic, especially if there was an accident in it's past. And I'd want some documentation on the accident and repairs. If it was serious, that will affect the value of the car, for sure. And I'd want to know who did the repairs, whether it was superfical body damage or whether it was more serious than that. That could explain why it has been for sale for a while. Also, the ad doesn't say when the last belt service was done or by whom. I'd want that info as well.

Saw this car was still for sale and was just curious if you had learned anything more about it, especially with regard to the accident mentioned? The price looks pretty low but I am assuming that must be for a reason...

It's been on Ebay for a L-O-N-G time! But that doesn't necessarily mean there is anything wrong with the car. That would require an up-close inspection. It is a very nice looking car. I was just browsing around and looked at it again the other day, my wife took a glance at it...and just raved about how beautiful it is....and she is not a Ferrari fan at all. So it does have great curb appeal. Here is the ebay link:

That is a real nice looking car for the price. Not perfect for sure. But it's worth to look at it I think. But why is price higher now than before. Was $32,800 and now $37800.

I spoke to the sales rep; she sounded cute on the phone with the brit accent, however, its been in a accident, involved the left front end if I remember correctly; had to be towed away from the scene; I asked for details, pics, insurrance claims,... anything to quantify the damage, however all the could say was it wasn't bad and it was a "low speed accident" . When I asked for records, there were none, only the tune ups recently at Lucky; also I asked for compression and leak down testing numbers, and they said it wasn't necessary as the car ran fine.

buyer better be a handy guy in the garage with a wrench and or have the balls to support the potential big up coming repairs.

Thanks for the info. That is what I was afraid of, accident, no records, etc. etc. If the price seems too good to be true, then it usually is!

I did notice that the trunk lid is bowed upwards a bit on the left side where it meets up with the fender, may be accident related....maybe not...hard to say.

I really liked the color and interior; this car probably has change multiple hands over the years.

If you can get a reliable local PPI you might get a real nice driver

The 1986 Ferrari 328 GTS that is listed on ebay by Lucky Motors is no longer for sale. I contacted them yesterday to check it out and they said they had it on consignment but the owner recently changed his mind and decided not to sell. Maybe he was tired of waiting for an offer.

Color combination is even more stunning out in the open road. I bought my car 6 years ago and still love looking at it.....it wears well for long term ownership. Kind of an understated look. There is something to some auction magazines calling cars "resale red". But as we choose spouses too, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My red seats also suffer from the age cracking. Steady leatherique application helps. I wonder if this car had the hood "crease" caused by trying to close the hood without pushing the little button. It isn't the gas type for sure. Also my targa bar had some pressure dimples caused by heavy handed targa top removal. At 76k miles, I plan on being the end user. I drive it every week for 25-50 miles, use EVERY switch, run the AC, heater, and just get it hot enough to loosen the 2nd gear sychro stiffness,.... I just hope this Ferrari that Lucky Motors had enough use not to decay from lack of use. At my PPI, the mechanic advised that steady use is the best preventative procedure to give any high performance car. That being said, #73231 needs it's weekly jaunt. I know it will leak some oil upon return, but cardboard is free and I think that a dirty engine that is regularly used is better in the long run. That and Stabil/Marine fuel stabilizer at every fillup. This is all my car gets in care. Getting back to the initial thought, hope the prospective buyer appreciates that a pleasing color combination on any car is critical and enjoy the somewhat rare color choice.... Grigio/red.

I flew to Chicago to look at this car. It was a big disappointment. The hood was bent where the hydraulic lift is attached. There were numerous scratches and dents not visible in photographs. The rear engine cover did not fit properly; gaps bigger on one side than the other. Looked like the body was twisted. The dealer did re-finish the drivers seat and it looked good. Just too many issues visable and who knows how many unseen.
The dealer asked at what price would I be a buyer. I told him I wasn't interested at any price. He was selling it on consignment for a customer who had bought another car from him. After my lack of interest he said he was going to call the owner and tell him to take it home. The dealer had the car for a year. The rest of his inventory was of a much higher standard.

Unfortunately, that is what I expected; its a restoration project, likely with a bent frame. What a shame; interesting color combo. Thanks for the post.

I can't say for sure, but I think this is the car I drove on several different occasions in the late 90's/ early 00's when working for a classic car dealer in Chicago. He stored it with the dealer every winter. Color combo is rare and the car was a nice driver at the time. I'm not sure who serviced it but it lived close to LFSC. The accident story fits too, as I remember the owner mentioning his teenage son was showing the car to friends in the garage when he lifted off the clutch while the car was running and in gear, promptly running into the rear wall of the garage with the front nose.

What date does the carfax show for the accident?

The wreck happened when an oncoming driver made a left turn in front of the owner and he side swiped the other car. Accident happened at speed.

Thanks for the clarification. My guess is it's still the same car, but with a two accident history. I don't have any proof though.
