After lurking for a while I have found a car I am considering purchasing (first Ferrari). You guys seem to find out details that CarFax and others seem to miss so I thought I should ask...anyone here know anything about this car?

    Thanks in advance!

Sorry don't know about that particular car, but it is a Ferrari with a serial number post August 89 (because mine is 82608 made in August 89). The later year TR are great cars for the money. There was an interior update in mid 88 that is pretty attractive. Go to red-headed.com I think for the full history of the TR series.

    Michael,

Find out when that 30K service they mention in the ad was done. Many non Ferrari dealer types figure once it has been done it never needs to be done again. I've seen ads where they say it has been done and it was done, but it was completed 10 yrs ago. Also ask them to FAX you a copy to look it over.

Last belt service was 8/99 (so I know it needs to be done) and the CarFax is clean...but I don't put a lot of trust in CarFax.

    Thanks for the help.

You ARE dealing with a used car salesman.

    Need I say anything more?!?!?

Wow that car appears to be very nice. I'm sure you will do your homework regarding these cars, and get it inspected by a shop or someone with appropriate knowledge. These low miles cars usually suffer from non-use issues like dry gaskets and rubber items, etc. But if the car is mechanically sound and the price is fair go for it. There may be some issues, but what car of that age isn't going to have "something" needing attention. From the pics it looks to be in mint condition. Please keep us informed, and Good Luck!

Thank you for the input (I pm'd you as well hope that was okay).

The car goes tomorrow to Joe @ Palma Automotive for a full PPI with compression test. Hard to believe that someone traded this for a 2005 Corvette...I hope it pans out I have been looking quite a while for the "right" car.

I live 20 mins away if you would like me to look at.I have been buying and selling high end cars for years so I can tell if the miles are correct(because I have seen dealers disconect the speedo for the time they own it and when they are done hook it back up) any paint work and all the documents.Let me know.I will be happy to help a fellow F owner.

Wow, thank you! If you have the time and don't mind...I certainly won't tell you no. I have been dealing with Mark (has the car and is one of the owners). I have checked him through a couple of friends that own other dealerships in NJ and they all have good things to say.

As I posted before the car is supposed to go to Palma Automotive for the PPI tomorrow. So in theory the car wouldn't be available for viewing but...if you get a chance I would love to hear some feedback. Buying sight unseen is tough.

I don't think I could do that but if it checks out it should be fine. The reason I mentioned true miles is because I was driving home one day for the Jersey Shore and I happen to come upon a TR and as I was driving buy I first noticed a dealer tag then, as I drove by, I was going 45 and he was 0 mph.I was so pissed off that I said that would never buy from that Ferrari dealership ever. It made me very sceptical from buying a used Ferrari from another dealers again.Let me know and I would more than happy to help.Good luck!

She arrived Friday and we put 100 miles on her this weekend. I had the belt service/30K done before delivery that is why this took so long to report back. Here is the pic while being unloaded...sorry only had the camera phone better pics to follow.

This is the first Ferrari I have owned...why did I wait so long? I still just stand in the garage and stare at it.

I also stand in my garage and stare at my 91 TR. Some times if I can't sleep I go down and stare. Thought something was wrong with me. Good to know there's at least one other with the same condition. Love your car......Charlie

I can come up with a couple of innocent reasons for it, but consider this.

Nowhere in the ad is a photo of the vin.

Seller has a history of 1

    Short time limit to investigate.

    No reserve.

Sounds like a sham to me, bid at your peril.

I just reread the text in his ad. It has a BIN price of $20,000. On a $70k car? Right.

    He's a thief.

I saw the ad too. So I emailed the guy. He sent me an email back saying he needed the money fast. Hmmmmm. The whole duplicate VIN thing confuses me too.

He reports that the car is in Springfield, MASS. Anyone from there see or know this car owned bya guy named Fernando? If so give us the skinny on this car please.

Here is a pix of the car gregio with tan/brown interior

    Thanx

If you need money fast you don't sell an asset worth 70 for 20. If you have the title the bank will loan the 20.

One more tidbit. 4 of the 6 bids are from someone with NO Ebay history.

Here is the text from the email he sent me.

    "Hello,
Sorry for my delay as I was out of State for a Family funeral. The price I am selling it for is just $20,000 including shipping costs anywhere in the continental US and insurance charges. Regarding the payment I am aware of the buyer's protection and we will use eBay's motors vehicle purchase protection program which will hold the payment until you receive and inspect the car.
You will be asked to make a deposit of $5,000 to eBay Motors; To complete payment the buyer must have cash available. The price is considerably lower then others on the market because I need to sell it really fast. The car has all the services done at the dealership. The vehicle was never crashed, abused or raced. I always garaged it and serviced it, kept very good care of it!. The vehicle is currently located in Springfield MA but unfortunately I am in Chicago IL, planning to open a business here and I don't think I can come sooner then next month. However I can arrange for the paperwork from here and I can talk to a shipping company to deliver the vehicle to your address. I think it's impossible to buy a vehicle for such a big amount without having an inspection first. So I had a look on eBay and I saw they could help us with this. Since the transaction worth a lot of money they've suggested to make the deal only through eBay so that we won't have any problems.
If you decide to buy all the papers are ready, just needed to be signed by you.
If you decide not to buy for a serious reason(of course after the inspection) then you can just ask the shipping company to send it back to my address with no extra cost(shipping is payed in advance by me).I think this is the fastest, safest and most fair solution we can have.
If you are interested to purchase the vehicle please provide me the following information's:
-your full name and address for shipping
    -your phone #
If I receive the requested information you will be informed by eBay during the next hours with details about your purchase.
    Thank you,
    Fernando Diaz"

I believe that is carguy or Jeff Green's car.

Check his profile and we know he bought it last spring (or fall).

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/member.php?u=465

EDIT: Maybe not. But he has one with the same 360 wheels and that color isn't exatly common.

EDIT2: It's possible he's using the pictures from when Jeff bought the car orignally and before he did all the clean up/30k work on the engine bay.

    It's obvioulsy a scam.
