How minor is the suspension damage? I don't think 'minor' and 'suspension damage' should be in the same sentence. I'd pay 20k more and get a sorted car, but that's me... $$$ adds up quickly on these cars. Wheels don't look like they fit correctly either. 355 wheels fill the wheel wells quite nicely, it doesn't seem to be the case on this.
I haven't called on it and it appears this outfit deals in repairables. I've gone this road (repairable) in the past with more positive than negative experiences. Where this car (supposedly) does not have a salvage history, I thought it might be worth a look if someone was familiar with it. If not, than I agree it may be no bargain at all.
If I had not just bought another car, I would VERY SERIOUSLY consider buying this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! According to the description, it's a B, and drives as is! Parts aren't that expensive. It's easy to see if the frame is square, and it has some nice wheels and scoops you can sell to somebody who's insecure about the looks of their 348. BUY IT and DRIVE IT LIKE YA STOLE IT!
This just looks like the potential for a money pit.....and even if you spend 20-30K to get it straight, you wil still have a car that will not have proper records and a checkered history. General rule....."There is no such thing as a cheap Ferrari"
Most interesting used cars (toys) have the potential to be money pits... even the ones that appear to be pristine examples can bite you. I've been down that road in both directions and I can tell you that spending money, expectedly sure beats being surprised. As far as records or a checkered history, this would be a driver- not a concours contestant so a car that's had a bad day and few scars doesn't scare me. A complete lack of history or salvage title are a more serious concern. As far as dumping 20-30k.... I might be way off the mark but if it needed anymore than 8-10K I wouldn't be interested in this particular car. In my very limited Ferrari experience, cheap is a relative term and one could certainly argue that the 348, while not cheap, appears to be a quite a bargain in the Ferrari world. I began looking at 308's, then 328's and in terms of value- I'm finding the 348 tough to over look. I've seen (though not in person) a few 348's sell in the 35-40k range that appeared to be reasonably sorted out drivers. I've also seen quite a few in the 50-60k range that are likely worth every penny, not sell. For guys like me that aren't collectors and want to enjoy using the car, I can understand the desire to find a nice "value priced" driver over a top notch museum quality car you'd be afraid to use as it was intended.
actually the 355 wheels don't fill the rear wheel wells unless you put spacers. I have 20mm on mine although most people seem to run 15mm
Pizzaprince, great- what can you tell me about it? Is it worth a look? Any idea why it is where it is? Thanks John
Haha, that may have been the cause of the "suspension damage". I believe the wheels are swapped also. I do have to admit it looks like the body mods were reasonably well done, the engine bay is clean, and the interior wear seems on par with the age and mileage. Still, I think the price is too high. It would be great to get some pics of the underside, camber on the front wheels doesn't seem right the closer I look.
I don't know about that. Here's mine with 355C wheels and no spacers! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Car is located in Bronx New York look's like previous owner drove it into every pothole in NYC.To many other car's to choose from, i passed.
are the potholes the source of the suspension damage or was that a metaphore for the car being an abused example? The engine bay and interior didn't look bad but I know pictures hide many sins. Do you have an opinion as to what that car is worth as it sits? Do you think they would entertain that discussion or are they acting like that price is the best deal since draft beer? Thanks for info- beats a 4 hour drive to Bronx but it's a drive I'd gladly take if the opportunity was right.
You know, I find this whole wheel thing pretty confusing That looks kind of like mine with spacers, so either challenge and regular wheels are different offsets or who knows
I'm still learning but I thought later 348's had a wider rear track than the early ones to improve/correct some handling quirks... am I mistaken?
Later 348s had a wheel with less offset resulting in a wider track and longer wheel bolts. It was effectively a spacer that was cast into the wheel. At least that is what I have seen on some 348 spiders. BT
curiosity got the better of me and I called. Apperantly there is no suspension damage al all - that was a misprint. The car has "very minor" flood damage. That makes more sense given the color appearance of the rugs but is a deal breaker for me. Not that it mattered to them as the car is under agreement pending full payment.
The craiglist posting is down, but I searched and found it relisted - however, its supposedly sold, and they don't have a price listed. What were they asking?
they were asking 32k... don't know what it sold for but given the history and condition, I would hope significantly less. When I called, they had a deposit and thier site listed it as sold a few days later.
