http://wnydreamcarsonline.com/vehicledetails.aspx?VID=135661581 VIN ZFFXR48A0V0108197 I put a deposit down on this car, conditional on inspection and a PPI by Ferrari. I am going to see the car tomorrow in Elma, New York. My local Canadian GM dealer is going to import the car for me. Car fax is clean, only two owners, just over 10000 miles, major service ($17,000) just completed (Although I am still waiting to see this receipt). Only issue is leather stretching over passenger air bag. $60,000 does that seem fair? Anything else I should be looking for? Asking? Thanks
I think the big issue is seeing the receipt for the recent service and the PPI. I'm sure you've used the search function already but the main thing to check is to see if the headers have been replaced and potentially the valve guides. The other things like sticky interior, etc. can be checked out during the PPI. I suspect that if the recent service was $17K then it feels like that would be about the right amount of money for a service that included guides and new headers. Outside of that the price doesn't feel overly high for a good car. You will likely see lots of emails from guys (most don't own a 355) saying how you can get one for under $50K and there's no way you should pay more than $45K for a car but I know for a fact that most of the owners on here that have good solid cars wouldn't dream of selling them for less than the mid to high $50's so back to my first statement. Assuming the receipts covered the usual big problems and the car has a solid PPI then it seems fair.
I called about this car earlier today. Dash has shrinkage on airbag (visible in pictures). Dealer did not know if headers or guides were replaced (expect not with only 10k on the car). Dealer claimed some sticky switches. No CELs. Dealer was supposed to send me records but I guess your deposit nixed that. I will say that $17k for a major seem like a lot. Must have been problems some where.
I am going down to physically look at car tomorrow, will get a copy of service records, I assume I will be able to determine if headers and/ or guides have been changed. If not how much is that service? Is it necessary? Is the shrinkage around air bag fixable? Thx
You don't need to fix what isn't broke but sooner or later headers will go. About $3 for an after market set plus installation (you can do that yourself, or so I've been told). A leak down test should tell you if the guides are OK. Have you arranged for a PPI with Ferrari? I was informed that the powers that be at Ferrari have instructed dealers not to do PPI's. Let me know how you make out as I am looking for a car as well. My 85 QV is lonely after 26 years without company.
I have not contacted Ferrari dealer yet, there is one recall (fuel distrbuter) that has to be addressed when car gets here, so my local dealer has made arrangments to bring car to Ferrari dealer, and I am going pay for ppi myself.
I know when I was thinking about the 348 Speciale at Daytona Auto in Toronto, Ferrari Ontario said they would do a PPI for me. (4hrs-$600 with compression check) so some Ferrari dealers do them. The only request from Ferrari Ontario was to book it well in advance as it is the busy time for dealers. Hope this helps. Terry Jones Ottawa, Canada
Went and looked and drove this car, drove nice, air bag and another warning light above air bag looked like two dots under a car? Exterior was very nice, except front underneath was scraped alot. Interior not so hot, I understand now what you mean sticky issues. Drivers seat very worn. Power top would only go up with assistance by driver. Air bag leather shrunk. I was told there was a recent major service. I have a copy of service records major was done in 2006, headers and or valve guides not done. Only other recent service was a oil change in 2009. I am passing on the car.
Hmmmm..... Doesn't sound like what was in the ad. Be patient, there are some really good cars out there and I'm sure one of them has your name on it.
Keep looking and do not loose faith or jump into something that is not right. I looked hard for almost a year before I found my 355. I would think that I had found the right car and then I would find that it had certainly not been fairly represented (this is putting it nicely) and had issues. I did find my car and it has been problem free, so they are out there, you just have to find one that was actually taken care of by someone that cared. I would also say do not be frightened of some mileage. A car that was regularly used and taken care of properly along the way is a treasure and most likely well sorted out. Good Luck!
