    It's a 98 GTA in Silver/Red with 8K miles.

Listed at something called "dream city sports cars" in Bothell Washington.

    Stock No: 33746
    Vin: ZFFWP50A1W0111128
    Mileage: 8,137
    Engine: 5.5L V12 DOHC
    Trans: Automatic
    Ext. Color: Silver
    Int. Color: Red

My first post -- hope I'm not violating any etiquette rules. I'm shopping for a 456 -- I have a 5 year old and 3 year old, so there's the practicality question. But I may consider a 355. Depends on how far off the leash my wife will allow me.

Do you have to get an automatic Ferrari? This car just screams, ... well nothing to me. It is blah except for the red interior. Kind of reminds me of a grocery getter and there are lots of better choices for that role. This car may have a difficult time selling becasue it is so uninspiring.

NO AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS!!! The 456 auto transmissions are great but, if it goes the car is a write off, it was a custom made transmission, and there are virtually NO REPLACEMENTS!

Wrong! Guts are GM 4L80T in a propietary case. No diy'er has yet taken one apart and told about it yet. If real mechanics have they are not saying.

There are already threads on transmission repair. These vehicles are maintainable. Never give up!

Thanks for the input. Quick question: what's the appropriate discount for an automatic vs manual? If you put two cars side by side, identical in all respects except the transmission, how much more would you pay for the manual?

I'd prefer a manual, but I'm willing to tolerate an automatic to "trade up" to a Ferrari. Then I can save the difference for maintenance.

I'm also not against the more anonymous "blah" nature of the off-color 456s. I don't need to show off. This is just for me. But silver's not my favorite either.

I love it when people who have no idea what they are talking about make posts like this.

You can do a 'search' on the automatics.....many owners enjoy them...

That said, I'd want mine to be a manual transmission, that's half the enjoyment of the car, to me....

    Have fun shopping..

The main thing is to change fluid/filter.......

There is a definite price differential in the market, around $5K or even more of a premium for the manual, which is a lot considering the total cost of the car. Yes, manual is more fun, but not if you're stuck on the I-5 around Seattle during rush hour, or just puttering around town or going down the interstate. It's on backroads that you get the manual's jollies, but that's not the primary environment for this particular kind of car. Now a 355....That's another matter completely.
