I plan to go look at it Saturday. Ferrari 355 Spyder F1 Immaculate Condition | eBay Also, anyone know a reputable source in the Palm Beach area for a PPI? Lastly, anything I should look for that's specific to the F355? I am mechanically inclined and not afraid to get dirty if need be. I have never owned a Ferrari (driven two - 328GTS and F430). I'm a Corvette owner and do all of my own maintenance (2006 conv. with supercharged LS2 and 2013 427 conv.). Thanks.
I've been tracking it for a while as well. I have corresponded with the selling dealer and the clutch was recently replaced as well. He said the cover for the top when it's down is the only thing missing. I guess I'll know more when I see it. I know the basics but was hoping an F355 Spider owner would give me some key items to verify.
Get a cylinder leak down test. If valve guides need to be done it's expensive. Cracked headers. F1 hydraulic pump.
I looked at it Saturday. Not the car for me. It's in nice shape but needs a few things. The windshield is cracked. They have a new one inbound. The driver's seat could use a redye. The top is new but the parade boot is missing. The paint looks good with no noticeable flaws. The belt service was done 1800 miles ago but that was also 2.5 years ago. The clutch was recently serviced. No records of any of the maintenance, though. It has Tubi exhaust but still sounds quiet. I did not drive it because I didn't want to waste their time on something I knew I was not going to purchase. He does have an F430 I'm considering. Thanks for everyone's inputs.
That is one nice looking car I must say regardless of the "issues". The belt service interval is fine - just make sure of what was done and replaced (i.e., water pump). Exhaust with a Tubi is never quiet in a spider, so I would check that out. Maybe it needs replacement cats to awaken it. The seat dye job is minor. The windshield will be replaced by them at their cost I assume? Not cheap for a spider. The PPI should concentrate on the biggie items - headers, leak down, clutch and F1 pump. A 1999 isn't going to be as susceptable to the valve guide issue, so for me, minimal concern there. The F1 pump is NA for this model and the 360 upgrade is reportedly getting scarce since now available parts have to service both the 355 and 360 models. Could be a cool car for someone. Clutc hes seem to wear faster in the F1 models than the manuals, but I do not believe this to be a parts or design issue versus a driver one. Last year for this model so its a decent one.
I had some interest in this car but noticed that all of the pictures showed the top up, and the one where you could see a little bit of the top down, there was no cover over it. I asked the seller about it and he said the past owner neglected to bring it with her but that he should be able to get it. I thought it was slightly deceptive not to state the cover was missing in the ad, but he did address it once I asked. I don't know how expensive it would be to get a replacement tonneau and I believe the seller stated you could use it without the cover, but the owner's manual specifically states not to operate the car with the top down and without the cover. Hopes this helps.
Missing the trim piece on the right side of the engine bay Missing top cover? How does that happen. Tools? Books? Keys? How many owners and from where? There are a bunch of things like this that need to add up for me. On cursory glance this looks like a car that has been around and not coddled For the right price and the right buyer that all doesn't matter. It all depends on what makes you feel warm and fuzzy 7500 for tubi exhaust. Does it have tubi headers? If it's just the muffler it isn't 7500. My car has a tubi muffler and it sounds great to me but there are others who would think its tame. Top down and I get chills I'm a fairly new owner of a spider and vetted a dozen or so cars before buying mine including eating a ppi on one that didn't work out. If I can help , give me a shout
