http://ferrarichat.com/forum/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=3243 Its a 1987 3.2 Coupe in Titanium gray. I live near Dallas and have looked at a couple here but not found one that makes sense yet. I prefer the coupes. Thanks for any insight on this one. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very nice car, except they don't know how to spell Ferrari on that spare tire. I personally like the stock wheels better. And even though I love the color, I prefer the cab. I love the 3.2 engine, just make sure you can live with the manual steering! Looks like a nice car.
That coupe is probably one of the finer 3.2s in captivity. It belongs to Stephane (scaledetails). He doesn't sell people any junk. For sure, check it out. Cheers, Hank
+1. Having read a bunch of his posts over my time here, and knowing him by reputation, I wouldn't be surprised if that is not the nicest or one of the nicest coupes that will come on the market this year.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Turns out its most recent major svc. was 4 years and 1000 miles ago. From what I've read and heard, it should still have a major and belt change in the next 1-2 years, despite not being driven. The clutch was replaced at 30k miles (its at 38k now) but that was in 1995! So the car hasn't been driven much. I'm a newbie on F ownership and trying to size up what I should prudently spend on the front end. Thanks again for your thoughts.
I can wholeheartedly recommend any of Stephane's vehicles. The belt service is pretty straightforward in this model so - purchase, drive, maintain & enjoy.
Really, really good Mondials are few and far between. This is a good one. There is a value in knowing that you are purchasing a quality car from an owner with an excellent reputation. I think this car is worth its asking price, and if I didn't have what I believe to be an exceptional example myself, I would have already jumped on this car. Those who buy cheap almost universally pay up soon after. If this car only needs belts/bearings, it will be relatively painless. I wouldn't worry about the clutch. Even if its going, it is another relatively cheap repair.
At 50K my 87 Mondial appears to be on it's original clutch, so I'd not worry about the clutch age. I didn't know anyone was recommending the belt service every year or two. I've seen the debate being between 3 and 5 years. And that will be an ongoing debate. I purchased mine with 4 years on the service and have driven it for a year and am about to do the 30K. It's a matter of opinion but if an inspection of the car comes back clean I'd buy it, drive it for a year and just do a 30K (incl tensioner bearings) and roll with it. It is the oil and brake fluid that is annual, coolant either 1 or 2 years on preference. I think my manual says to change out the A/C refrigerant annually too, not sure I'll go that far. If you want a car like this, this is a good one to look at.
That being said, I once purchased a set of wheels from Stephanand found him to be very honorable. - Ron Frohock
