Looks pretty clean, but as they say no such thing as a "cheap" Ferrari.

 

boy is that the truth. I don't know anyone who bought one and keep it for three years and not put any money into it.and if that person didn't put anything in to it and just drove then sell it,I want to meet that person who bought it and ask him just what did it cost him to get the car back in shape to keep driving it?

 

Let's do some analysis:

White
Euro
VIN indicates 1984, not 85.
TRX tires? 390's? That's a minus.
Needs service, probably a lot of service.
Seller writes like an 8 year old.

Buy it for the 23K or so. Add 7K for service more or less. Buy 16 inch wheels. You are in for probably 32-25K for a white Euro. Maybe not bad, but certainly not cheap.

I can agree with all of your cons, with the exception of it being a Euro. IMO a well documented Euro, that's been serviced properly, should not be worth any less than a US spec car. I would argue that being lighter and having more hp would be an asset compared to the US cars. The older the gray market cars get, the less it matters.

 

You can make the argument and I have no skin in the game but those that I know who went to sell Euros really struggled. Emissions testing is required almost everywhere anymore which is a factor. Insurance can be a problem and parts not always easy to acquire. Many dealers won't touch them. Financing can be difficult. O/w Euros are great but all other factors being equal, they sell for less.

Definitely not welcome in California... which rules out a pretty big Ferrari market.

 

I can see where the emissions would come into play. In Texas, anything 25 years old and over is only required to pass a safety inspection. Not sure about other states but California is a considerable segment of the market, so it does impact the overall demand. Parts are parts... that's why we use the internet. Euro parts are even more available than they ever were. Hagerty insurance... $375 a year.. not really a problem. I wish my other cars were that cheap to insure.

Overall I guess you guys are right... It just hurts like hell to admit it.

 

Should not hurt. All our cars are worth what they are worth, which is to say less than a year ago. Drive and enjoy!

Why would a Euro car be cheaper to insure? I pay double that for my '85 through Hagerty's.

I dunno... They never asked me if it was a Euro or US Spec car. To my knowledge they do not differentiate between Euro and US. Maybe it's the age.. my car is 25+ years old. Your car is 24. Call em and check it out...

I agree +1 for Euro..(82 Euro 308 gtbi) no problem here getting mine insured for full value, no problem getting parts, did my own belts and bearings about $300.00, found a set of original QV wheels for $500.00 shipped, enjoy driving a Euro...priceless

Looks like a great car, I must concur that the car is NOT a 85 model, but a 84 model. Car looks nice in white/black. Heck of a good buy in my opinion, even if she needs a major. If there is not concrete evidence of a major service, than consider a major service as the first thing you do.

 

your right about the year. why would he post it as a 85? to make you belive its the last year when its really a 84?

 

A common problem with Euro cars, even though we know the car is an 84 the importer probably imported the car in 85 and since the US and Europe designate model years differently the car was probably originally titled as an 85. The current owner I'm sure knows no different. This would be a problem in Ca. if they say an 84 is allowed in and an 85 is not you would have to show documentation that the car was actually model year 84 and get a corrected title before they would allow the car to be registered.

this is why here in calif, I didn't want a euro for my first ferrari maybe later after I know what calif whats to get the car register. sounds like a pain in the butt
