    an opeechee just sold for 465k. I paid 12 bucks for my tops card when I was a kid

    I used to be a big hockey card collector (and occasional dealer) but haven't been active in the hobby for about 10 years so not up on current prices.

    Cards from this era are extremely dependent on condition - most came out of the factory with flaws (off center, fuzzy corners, printing spots, etc) so it's virtually impossible to find one in perfect 10 condition. Haven't seen the one that set that auction record but guessing it was perfect.

    If you were to have it graded, I would realistically guess anywhere from a couple hundred to several thousand realistically depending on the condition. Still not a bad return on $12

    Just be careful with these - there are TONS of fakes and many were done years ago / can be convincing. For a Gretzky rookie, I would definitely suggest grading through PSA or similar if you intend to sell.
