Saw this momo steering wheel kit with wheel and hub/boss for the 355 in an EVO magazine. The wheel itself is titanium colored. Article said that it was purchased from QV london. Does anyone know if this kit is still available from momo? Or if it's stricly a European part? Thanks!

Hi Edmo, that was my car! I had the boss made for the car by QV as they do them for their race cars. It is not a Momo item and I don't think they make one for the 355.

It is a beautiful piece of solid billet aluminium (spelt correctly ;-) ) and places the wheel nearer the driver hence improving the position. The wheel itself is a Momo Race and feels so much better than the fat, ugly original wheel.
Due to the firmer rim and smaller diameter it improves steering feel and reduces the amount of movement needed to make a turn, making it feel higher geared and slightly raising the steering effort. (All good things by the way!)

Only downside is obviously you lose the airbag and the solid boss will not give in an accident (so best not to crash) and I don't know about insurance or legality outside of the UK.

The wheel and boss were taken off my car prior to sale last year and are sitting in my garage.
If anyone is interested in making me a sensible offer PM me. (Cost me over £200 for the two)

    Edmo7,

The steering wheel to which you are referring mounts, as you are aware, to what is referred as a "hub". The rim then bolts to the hub.

The major problem with this wheel is that it does NOT provide for the air bag, and the horn sensing pick-up mechanism would be different.

These steering wheel types I sold in large numbers in the 70's and early 80's for European sports cars that did not as yet have air bags. My steering wheels were also original equipment on the Bricklin auto in 1974 & 1975.

It would not be a smart idea to change to this type wheel as you would most likely experience other electrical problems as well.

It looks nice, is outdated, and would not be sufficiently functional.

I just got a hub adapter and bought a Momo Millenium wheel for my 355 and I love it. It wasn't hard to take off the old wheel - there are some threads here on how to do it. I was more worried about the air bag so I disabled the battery and then removed it. You have to buy some security star wrenches to remove it (about $10). The horn adapter plugged in perfectly. I don't have the Ferrari logo on mine but its ok with Momo there. I got a shift knob to go with it.

I totally agree about feel - it is SO MUCH BETTER. I can't believe I ever drove a car without a Momo. I would never go back. As for the airbag, there are lots of situations that the airbag won't protect you in anyway. And, the seat belts should hold you in just fine. They are very very tight in my opinion. I have no hesitation recommending that you do this.

BTW, I bought the adapter that an independent Ferrari service place in Massachusetts was selling and it was damn expensive and I got the last one (from a run of 20). Wish I had seen this thread a few weeks ago as I would have bought godzilla's adapter (probably for alot less money!).
