    Hmm...the motor is less than a belt change service, less R&R costs. Certainly a pro can take out your blown motor and install this one for less than two belt services including the cost of the motor. Aand a DIY guy makes out like a bandit.

    What am I missing here??

    Unknown condition and the 81-82 years are the weakest of the 308 motors. It may be one of the notorious oil-burning ones, and you won't know until you run it.

    Pull the rear tag off. If it's oily behind it, it is probably one of them.
    (why? - how many of us remove the tag to wash the car?)

    there was a really rotten mondial 8 sold on ebay uk with a running engine for just over £2k for the complete car, Its sounds about right if you compare it to this
