My 20-year-old 308QV's expansion tank still looks like new, so a LONG time if you take moderate care of it.

Is it the same as a 304GT4?
Superperformance sells aluminum header tanks for that model.

If it's rotted out replace the cap at the same time. If the cap doesn't seal off well it allows free flow of air to the coolant inside. The glycol reacts with air to form acids.

Great find, the other tank listed in the Superformance page mentioned above is the one for us with the GTB/S! Waaay cool, I think I'll get one! Does Anyone import these?

Can you, or someone else, provide more info about this glycol/acid effect? I've never heard about this one.

Common automotive antifreeze contains ~2% inhibitors before dillution. Once the inhibitors sacrifically react away you have uninhibited glycol. In a header tank of a vehicle that is not driven very often you could have a locallized depletion of inhibitors.

Change your glycol every 6 monthes- no matter how often you drive the car. Glycol is cheap compared to repairs.

This was a good find. I just noticed that mine has a very small pinhole leak in the tank. I also found a reciept from the PO for getting the tank repaired. Time for a new one I guess.
