I broke the clear glass lens on my 328 mirror. I can't find anyone that just sells the clear glass piece and it's some sort of polarized glass. Looking for someone that needs a mirror for other reasons? Trim ring pops off and the clear lens is easy to remove. If someone has one that has other type of damage but doesn't need the clear lens that would want to split the cost. If your's is loose or the mirror itself is faded we could save each other some $$$

Have you tried a local glass shop???

I have had great luck, with outside mirror replacements cut to fit!!

Seems like they could match the sample from the broken one.....

It's some sort of polarized lens, the day/night feature won't work without it.

    Hmmm. Is that true????

I recently broke mine and had one cut in plain clear glass and it seems to work fine at night on the day/night flip function. Mirror part is still the original.

Did you try it without any glass? I haven't tried it with plane clear glass but it doesn't seem to work with nothing. I did got out and check to make sure it's working mechanicallly since someone else told me the same thing.

You were right, I was wrong. It is a plain clear piece of glass. It won't work without it but I tried it with a piece of the broken lens and a piece of glass from a picture frame and it worked the same. I don't really understand it or how it works? My guess is it projects the image on to the back of the glass when you have it in the night mode. I still need the piece of glass if anyone has one to sell. Otherwise I'll have one ground somewhere.
Thanks all who have helped me see the light(s)...but with less intensity.

Your response just now beat mine below:

You are correct that it will not work without the front glass. This is because the dimmed image is reflected off the clear lens at the off angle it is set into the housing. Notice that the mirror and clear glass are not mounted vertically parallel. You are not looking at the mirror's surface reflection at night when its dark out.

    Regards,

    Bob

    Kevin,

Check your broken glass thickness. Mine was 1/16" (the original). My local shop could not easily get that thickness anymore. So I just had them make up a piece in 1/8" (the next thinest) from a cardboard template I cut to fit into my housing's front clear lens "position" as the mirror piece's shape seemed slightly different . The 1/8" clear barely fit into the housing's support slots but I got it to work. It's been fine for 4 months now.

    Good luck!!

Worse case I'll sacrifice the picture frame and have them grind that glass. Thanks

While they are at it, have them make a spare...just in case. I probably should have myself!

An ex of mine bumped her head on my mirror while removing her coat inside the car (yes, of course I suggested that she do this before hand as I thought the coat to be to bulky for the tight fit of the 308).. the mirror was knocked from it's snap in perch an out the open drives door to the ground!

I too discovered there was both the mirror and the clear glass within the unit. Luckly for me only the clear glass was broken. Had it cut a a local glass shop close to my job. Re assembled and installed.
    Total cost $7.50
    Payment by the ex.. Priceless!

Call Ted Rutlands. I bet they have a stack of used ones. They do for my QV. A couple of years ago my little day/night lever thingy broke and I picked one up from them cheap and rebuilt mine (I bought one that had broken glass so it was really cheap). They had a bunch on the shelf upstairs.

I'm not sure if my rear view mirror is loose or worn out. When I drive down the road it looks blurry because of the slack/vibration. Can they be tightned up?
