We found out the alternator in my car was under spec at 111amps max output instead of 140 (and we tested full draw at a healthy 113amps, without the stereo on!). This was causing a serious voltage drop, and then it was compounded by a separating fuse board which torched soldering points for the fuel pumps and a few other accessories, causing relays to burn up and fail, and eventually I had to have it towed to the ever brilliant Mark Glenwood of 7 Lakes Auto Repair. Mark's thorough approach solved a problem no one else had been able to solve.

When we discovered the alternator output issue, we decided to go with a brand new model. They were hard to find, and without checking with Mark first, I bought the last one in stock at one of the few Ferrari parts companies that still had inventory. About an hour later Mark told me he found one out of Europe. Now that I don't need 2 alternators, I want to offer it to the community here as one of those potentially unicorn parts that could really help someone in a bind during what seems to be an un-ending parts shortage. I paid $841, and I'll ship and cover PayPal fees for the same amount to anyone here who needs it. Most prices we saw in this range were actually charging closer $1200 when we called on the phone, or they no longer had inventory. Hopefully someone can benefit from our footwork finding these. Thanks!

i start to wonder why someone would install a unoriginal 111 A alternator into a Ferrari with a huge stereo that would need more capacity than a standard car...!?!

We think it just sat for too long and started demagnetizing like a generator typically will. It was definitely an original unit from Nippon Denso, but way out of spec. The new alternator is very strong, though these cars could probably use another 20-60amps because they really do operate at 90%+ capacity with all accessories on, stereo, higher power ignition requirements with the extra power from the headers, etc.
