Prices seem to be going up and supply going down on Ebay. Shocked to find so few 308s for sale right now. Is this a sign of things to come?

Is it a winter trend of not selling sports cars in the winter?

When I was looking for mine a couple of years ago there was only a couple for sale at any one time. I was specific in what I wanted - GTS QV red/cream- but there wasn't many for sale in other colours.

I have noticed that too. 2 308s on ebay and 11 on Hemmings.

*Perhaps the miserable winter weather is impacting selling decisions?
*Maybe the US is being drained of 308s to overseas buyers and there aren't that many more available here? (state by state, year over year registration data anyone?)
*Or are more people holding on to their 308s waiting for the prices of 308s to go up?
*Maybe everyone who owns a 308 right now has realized the horror stories about 308 maintenance aren't really so horrible and have decided to actually enjoy their cars and not worry about that next belt change!

Time will tell, but how much time? Spring? Will we see the lower production models bring big $100,000.00+ selling prices at auction in 2014?

Sports cars are hot, muscle cars are not, and the cycle continues?

    Lots to think about!

"Sports cars are hot, muscle cars are not, "

I'm not sure I agree with that, at least in the US. Muscle cars - at least some of them - are selling for a lot more than 3x8's. I just recently did a search for a '69 Road Runner and though of course it depends on the engine, I couldn't find anything for under 50k in GOOD condition, even with the standard 383. A Hemi was over 100k for an original. That was based on selling prices, not asking.

I was planning on selling mine, the plan was to get rid of 3 cars for 1 Boxer, which I recently took stewardship. However, after 12 years of ownership and keeping it in great condition, I realized I love the car and don't want to get rid of it. Mostly because I'm afraid I won't be able to replace it, if I decided it was a mistake.

Thay are just so much fun to drive, look fabulous, reliable and fairly easy to work on. So for the $28K-35K what am I going to get with all the 308 provides. Nada!

Winter is the worst time to sell a sports car. Spring/early summer is the best. It would be somewhat foolish to list a car now when it could bring 5-10% more in 3 months, and wouldn't have the stigma of being on the market for a long time.

There seems to be a number of other F cars for sale. I've been watching the ads and fewer and fewer 3 x 8 cars are coming up for sale.

fate... I got sick, couldn't see your car, winter is here, and now you won't sell!!! ha! Just my luck. I still haven't found what I'm looking for (reminds me of a song I've heard, once..)

    I'm feeling good now - but still without a 308 :(

What I meant by that question is more like, which market is rising and which has plateaued? Not that they have to be different, but over the years I have observed the inventories of a few specialty car boutiques change to reflect the relative popularity of one type or the other.

Lots of muscle cars are worth more than a 308, but is the demand for muscle cars cooling off while the demand for sports cars like 911s, 308s, and Fiat Spiders (just throwing that one in as I see these in the ask column for $15K from time to time :) ) heating up? Which prices are in general rising faster, muscle cars or sports cars?

On a side note, Plymouth sold 84,000 Road Runners in 1969, Ferrari sold 18,000 308s in 10 years. I personally think 308 prices are being pushed up (along with sports cars in general), while Road Runners are holding their value, but not appreciating as fast has they have in the past (along with muscle cars in general). There will of course always be exceptions...

It's funny you mention this topic, I had the same thought as I've always followed 3x8 eBay listings and don't see much anymore...

I never knew about GT4's until I got one and I can't figure out what it's worth since there are so few sold...

    Glen,

    Nitpicking, I know, but not 18.000 ?
Numbers are (probably not exact to a hundred for the 308 total, as the numbers of carbed "B" in particular is not yet agreed by all)

    12149 Ferrari 308 + 300 Ferrari 208 (160 "B" + 140 "S") + 687 "Turbos" (437 "B" / 250 "S") which gives a grand total of 13.136 for the "308 Bodied" versions.

    7413 Ferrari 328 (1344 "B" + 6068 "S" + one unique factory 328 cabriolet) and 1136 "Turbos intercooler" (308 "B" and 828 "S") grand total of 8548 for the "328 bodied" cousins

Or 21685 for the 308/328 family.

    Rgds
