    In short:
    Well built.

From what I have read it is an extremely capable car.

Most cannot get over the VW badging, but definitely great for those seek animosity.

I think the W12 is a steal on the 2nd hand market.

I looked at one at the dealership, if I wasnt a student and had the money, I'd seriously think of getting one. Looked very well built and was very nice inside. I've only heard good things from a couple people I know who have driven them.

My racing teammate has two and loves them. Visit vwvortex for a Phaeton-specific forum.

This was my first experience in a Phaeton last Saturday:

IMO the should have just called it the Phaeton... And Left all VW badging off... and perhaps altered the styling a little to make it look less like a big Passat.

We seriously considered one when they were introduced. The 8 cyl. car felt very ponderous, and while it would get up and start to go with a heavy foot on the throttle, it felt more massive, and less lithe than I would find acceptable as a driver's car. The interior was very well finished, I liked the notion of 'central' a/c without the use of vents; but there were other quirks, to me, anyway, that were inexplicable. For example, regarding integrated cell phone set-up, the car I looked at had a terminated power wire in the console box between the seats- that's it. The 12 might be the way to go, I was interested in one in that upgraded black paint with the special rear seat arrangement that has a console between them. That was, at the time, a special order. I found that of the several dealers I called, most seemed clueless and a few didn't even bother to call me back. I can see why the car failed in the marketplace. Apart from parts availability, or unknown mechanical issues, I would think the 12 would be a deal these days.
