No problem - usually the most 'expensive' Mondial (actually any Ferrari too) is a very low priced car, this usually implies some sort of defect or deeper issues (not all the time of course) The cost to bringing back a car that has an issue often exceeds by a great amount the cost of getting a well-sorted car from the start. You may have a Mondial (or Ferrari) priced well below market due to the seller saying, well it's got a 'couple' issues that I'm sure you can deal with....this just does not really work in the limited production exotic world. Everything with the Mondial costs about 10X more and 10X more time to fix then say today's mass produced Mustang or Camero (which are much better performers to boot!)

    ;)

A PPI (Pre-purchase Inspection) by a qualified mechanic is a must, "full stop" as in no exceptions.

    :)

    Be well my friend!

you're a serial monogomist stephane... if you haven't found true love at the 17th time of asking maybe settling down isn't your thing! Does sound like you're a coupe guy though.

I really like your cab... just that lowered suspension - looks great in my view but would need replacing for originals for our pot-holed, speed-bump laden english roads.

"Appears" is the key word here. Beverly Hills Car Club is better known for selling salvage cars, and ones in bad need of restoration. Anyone considering this car should go there and inspect it with a world class expert. I can't imagine this car isn't due for service either, his cars all need it.

    I have serious issues, I know. :)
As I am getting older the coupe is really what I am looking to keep longer than 6 months.
Thanks, I do love this car, the stance is fantastic.

Those were mine. The blue one went to a dealer....He came and drove it away. I think he was well pleased.

I had the black one pretty much sold but decided to keep it. I got tired of being beat over the head over the car fax issue. I could not begin to replace that car for the money I was contemplating selling it for.

It seems like a lot of people are looking at 30 year old cars and expecting them to be showroom fresh....for under $30k.....sure....keep dreaming ...lol.

I agree with you. No one should buy any car, especially a Ferrari, without personally inspecting it. Due to the reputation of the seller, it would be wise to tread carefully and a PPI would be mandatory.

From what I have found, most F cars need a 30K service and at least a minimum of a belt service from a Ferrari specialist. I actually prefer an unserviced car, as unless the service was done from a handful of Ferrari experts (Tim and Tom Stanford, John Tirrell and Ferrari Service of Bedford; my short list) I would not have confidence in the level of service.

I was curious and ran Carfax and I know Carfax is not the solution to everything, but it and a few other reports are all we have. It was in Louisiana, thus there is POSSIBLE flood damage. However, it does NOT have a salvage title and was owned 10 years there. Prior to that, OK reported it as EWL. An EWL title a designation issued when the owner discloses an odometer rollover to a DMV. However, I know OK makes many mistakes and if the car has some service records this could be verified and corrected.

In spite of all this the car is still worth checking out but be careful. I did not run an Autocheck or other car reports to double check Carfax.

So everyone must be wondering why haven't I checked the car out..... well I am negotiating a deal on an 87 3,2 convertible with 13K verified original miles....hopefully soon to be a Platinum car at Cavallino.

If anyone does check it out let us know.

I have had autocheck reports be a complete disaster. had one on a 35,000mi 560 sl, turn out to be 135,000 with a new odometer at 50k miles rolled back to 35k miles.. and not show 3 crashes. thought i was getting a nice car to have in a collection - and it was a disaster. My lesson, used car lot dealers - never buy without a ppi and a carfax.. and just basically avoid. if you want a nice car, best to get from a proper new dealer, that will stand behind the car, or from a proper enthusiast / collector. if spending for a proper car, nothing beats having a paint depth gauge. i just purchased for a friend ( and we knew this with out own inspection) a 06' maserati GT - that had a lot of paintwork and some mild crash damage- with perfect inspection reports. nothing beats having a person you trust look at it, or its crazy easy to find a reputable PPI person look at it with a paint gauge.. Did i mention Paint Gauge? I had the local paint guru down here in south florida look over a car i have know the history of since new and to the naked eye for him- he thought the car was perfect. after whipping out the gauge, he saw the right side and door of the car had been touched up - but done masterfully. perhaps was done prior to original delivery? you never know.. but the paint gauge does!

I tired to PM you, but your inbox is full. Is there a notation on the report during it's time in LA that suggests water damage or are you just purely speculating? You can PM me with any details if that's easier. Thanks

Big +1. The conservator in me wishes I had the money to buy and restore all of those poor cars. Especially the Mondials! But yes, check out any car there in person with an expert. I've called and talked to them about a few cars and they like to give open ended answers.

Great looking Mondial! Wish I had space in my garage for it! Very tasteful mods and rims really improve the look.

I wish you luck Domenic.. I remember my hunt for the perfect Mondial more than 6 years ago now. I found an extremely nice example with low miles on the showroom floor of Manhattan Motorworks. I then spent 60k more over a 5 year period and 10k miles to make it, well, perfect. It's an obsession and its lunacy but I truly love my Mondial T, I just wish I could drive it more. Having a collection and constantly buying more loves, interferes with that.

I know it's not cheap and it's not a 3.2 but YELO T's car is a unique car. If you'd like to stand out of the crowd this is the car.

DDD, we talked months ago about my Rosso 88 Cab, "Fara" (plate FARARRI), I have finally put her on the market. I know it's not exactly your dream wish list car, but please look again.

On Ferrari chat Classified (yesterday-88 Mondial, my ID Fara's Daddy) and Ebay. (eBay item number:191814575301)

    Thanks, Dave
